Personal Narrative: My Political Perspective
My political viewpoint has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to politics. I come from a democratic family, where it is strongly believed that it is the government’s responsibility to care for all people and that the government knows what is best for all people. Every voting season, my parents vote for a democratic president and explain to me the reasoning behind their decision. It was not until I was in the tenth grade that I realized that I did not hold the same political beliefs as my parents. After taking several political quizzes and extensively researching the bevy of political parties, I now know that I am an independent. What is an independent? An independent is an individual politician not affiliated to any political

My insider/outsider partner was Alicia Garcia. As you can tell by her last name she is Hispanic. I don’t have many Hispanic friends and I am not use to their culture. Starting on the project Alicia told me a little a bit about her heritage. One of the things I asked her was, “Do you celebrate the day of the dead?” I know that might seem like a crazy question to ask, but I the only thing that I truly knew about her culture is what I seen on TV. Alicia said that they do celebrate it to some extent. They don’t actually go to a grave site and light candles for their fallen relatives, but instead have a feast in honor of them. Alicia is the first generation American Hispanic.…

I do not specifically identify with democrat or republican. I think that both parties have some good things on their agenda and there are also things that I don’t agree with personally, that are on both the democratic and republican agenda. With that being said I would like to consider myself an Independent. I think it’s common for people of my age (19) to not fully commit to one party.…

The 2016 Presidential Election was easily the most negative Election in recent history. Apart from my policy disagreements with President Elect Trump, I am morally repulsed by his conduct. My Hispanic friends were offended by the insinuation a that Mexican immigrants were criminals and a unwanted burden on the United States. My female friends were terrified by his misogyny and open, joking (at best) attitude towards sexual assault. I was disgusted by his disdain for the environment and the truth.…

In high school I was aware of politics, but didn’t really know much about it. I was a self-described Libertarian without honestly knowing much of the issues in detail. Around the time of the campaign for the 2008 general election I started to make a point of paying attention to political issues. I would listen to talk radio and watch online news media. The more I would learn the more I would question the views that I held. Eventually I came to change my views, quite radically. Just after the election of Barack Obama I would say I was a self-described socialist, though I’m not much of a fan of labels.…

This whole presidential race has been something. To be specific it has been something I have hated. Politics is probably the only thing in this world that I feel such a hatred for. I don't hate it because of the outcome of the election, I hated it before that. The reason I hate it is because it just turns everyone against each other and it just causes negativity.…

Choosing a political party is a decision based on how active you think the government should play a role in the lives of everyday people. When making this opinionated decision, it is better to see where you fit within the political spectrum. The two major parties are the Democratic and the Republican Party. These two parties are both looked differently upon by different selections of people. “Political Party affiliation is a quick way to find out the basic ideas and philosophy for each candidate, both Republicans and Democrats. Political affiliation can be used to understand the core beliefs of each candidate and there are significant differences between…

My father thought, if people could be more like him, we would all be better off. The people with whom he enjoyed playing music became the people who were now taking his hard earned money. All this political banter left me disinterested in politics. Thankfully I was away at college during the 1993 presidential election when Clinton won, with the help of my mother. This political divide left me with no feelings for politics at all. I can compare my political thinking with the wind-one minute it’s blowing to the right then it swings to the left. In retrospect, I can thank my parents, for they gave me the skills necessary to be a good political scientist. I can read information and learn about issues void of emotion. This is the first political science class I have ever taken and I must admit I have enjoyed all the readings thus far. If someone would have told me years ago I would be writing a paper about liberals and conservatives I would never have believed them. What is a liberal? How do you define a conservative? Is having a label of a liberal or conservative constructive…

You have expressed yourself so well. Thank you for waiting a day before responding. I too, have waited, not just two days to express my view but months. During these months, I have been caught between” a rock and a hard place”. You see, my oldest will vote for the very first time in our American democracy for president. I feel sorry for him. The first time I voted, I voted for Reagan. Time has advanced to a point where he has no choice. He has to make a decision, with his vote, that is not good either way. He has watched the news, he has listened to his parents along with his American Government teacher. He has also been able to discern for himself. Yet, he will vote. Why? Because we, in our family, believe our country is still great and those…

If I were to describe my political ideology, I would consider myself mostly liberal with some independent views. I believe in equality for everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. I think Americans need to be a little more accepting, and open to reaching out and helping those in need. This country needs to continue moving forward and growing, and I do not see that happening with a conservative in charge.…

Before starting this assignment I have always thought that I would be in a party that had nothing really to do with Republicans or Democrats. Why should I relate to something that in my opinion always either has a strong left or right brain about something that could easily be just in the middle. Since 2004 I have been able to vote for whomever I felt could be the President of the United States and since then I have tried to vote for people like Cynthia McKinney (Green Party 2008), Ralph Nader (Independent Party 2004 and 2008). At the time I voted for Ralph Nader because I believe that he would be someone that this Country needs. He has run for the Green party in 2000-04 and for the Independent Party 2004-08. He has many non-profit organizations under his belt and I felt that I can relate to him. That being said I have always imagined myself to be in the Green Party or Independent Party.…

The Shared Vision I am currently in the process of crafting includes working for an organization that will challenge me to grow both in knowledge and as a person. Peace Corp is one organization that can give me what I want out of my company and organization and how I am going to get that out of my new organization. At this time I am trying to link my personal vision to the organization’s potential in order to help myself align the organization’s purpose with my own purpose (vision): and to prepare the individual groundwork for creating a shared vision. I am at a crossroads on my career path, where I can either I can decide on my personal vision and try and line up my career with that vision or I can let someone else determine what type of work…

“Graduation, the hush-hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations and diplomas.” You weren’t lying when you said that Maya Angelou. May 19th, 2013 I had dreamt of that day for almost four years. I know I can’t be the only person who feel this way. I remember it as if it was just yesterday. So many different emotions going through my mind all at once. Happiness, Sadness, I felt relieved because it was almost over but at the same time I felt anxious and overly excited to just leave and go far away. 389 seniors were going to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. After all, our class had the biggest percentage of graduates who were actually…

In addition, my political views were also taught by my parents, they have always discussed the differences between republican and democratic parties. The political party that I’ve always favor has been the Democratic party, but this year I have leaned towards the Republican party. In the 2008 election, the Democratic party, I felt deceived in some of the proposals for example one of them is Obama care, in failure to boost the economy and lack of employment dropping substantially. Recently, I’ve have questioned myself, are the Presidents just promising to get elected, then forget their duties. It’s hard to be engaged and belief in future promised changes. More than ever in this year’s election it’s important to vote. Voting is essential right that is given to us also the right to choose, so for that reason I have always voted. My beliefs are more on the conservative side. I feel strongly on many issues, education, abortion, finance and taxes. In this year election there is so much chaos, division among people, tension, narcissism and authoritarian movements, that’s scares me of what the future in America holds for me and my children. People in the United States are angry because of what the past politicians have promised and have delivered very little. I feel strongly, that is very important this year more than ever to vote, it can make a…
