It feels as if I haven’t grown at all, but when I really think about it, I have. I have grown as both a student, and a global citizen.
Since I was in elementary, I hated writing. All of my essays were really short and off topic, until before high school. I learned that in high school, it really counts for a college application. So I had to find a way to become a better writer in order to do good. So I started off in the summer. I got a notebook, and I wrote what I did that day. Those things weren’t really interesting, but I noticed that I was being more and more specific each day.
On the first days of school, I wrote. The essays were kinds of good, but I needed to find a way to make them better. Then we started writing in advisory. I wrote a little bit and I was specific. There was someone at the exit of the freeway, these were two people that looked like a mother and a son. The mother was dressed in a coat that did not look bad at all, but she was really skinny. I can tell because she had practically no cheeks and her face wrinkled. She was so skinny and cold that she was shivering. I saw her son next to her, he looked about thirty or forty years old. He was holding a poster that said “PLEASE HELP. GOD BLESS.” When I first saw that I thought “Maybe the guy had to stop going to school to support his mom, and now they’re here.” My mom said, “Aww, I forgot my wallet, I could have given them money so they can buy themselves something to eat.” I just sat there and was thinking, trying to remember if I had any money with me. So I looked everywhere in the car as fast as I could, trying to find money before the red light turned green. And I found a few dollars curled up somewhere around the dashboard. My mom gave it to them and said “Here, buy yourself some
