Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Class
During my first semester as a college freshman I have grown a lot not only as a student, but also as a person. At first I thought of myself as a good writer, but throughout the semester I learned that I had a lot of improvements to make in my writing. Already I have made a lot of progress and will continue to improve throughout the rest of the year in core. My biggest challenge with Core was learning to think outside the box. This included challenging myself to new ideas that I never considered before. In class the topics we discussed were interesting but sometimes challenging, and I learned to adjust my writing accordingly. On top of that the questions my professor would ask us weren’t just for the purpose of making sure we read, but mostly to make us think about the readings in a deeper way. At the beginning of the year, I would read a book or passage, I would understand what happened, but I wouldn’t understand why things happened the way they

Not only did he do that, but he taught me to go deeper in my understanding and think about other possibilities other than just the ways that I was taught. Professor Geiman was unique because he didn’t do things like most of the other core professors. In my honest opinion, separating into groups, discussing the stories, and listening to the teacher talk about the stories that we read doesn’t seem like a very productive class to me. I appreciate that my professor didn’t treat us like we were children and we all engaged in our conversations altogether. Not only that but we went beyond the text and the films and talked about life and how the stories relate to us or what they really mean. These are the times where I grew most because I was exposed to new topics that I had never thought of before. My Core experience has been great so far and has helped me become the person that I am
