My Writing Process In English Class
As a student coming fresh out of high school I am still used to writing as I have been taught since I was in middle school. We were taught to outline, make a first draft, have someone read that draft, revise and then hand in the final copy. This is a long and boring process that has not changed and is always so repetitive. We always had to write five paragraph papers about things that would never be relevant to my future. In this class I hope to change my approach and how I feel about writing.

So I start off every piece that I write with making sure I am comfortable. This usually means I am sitting in my bed, wearing pajamas, and being covered up by my blanket. I like to be alone when I write so I do not get distracted, as

To me, writing is kind of personal and I do not want someone to judge me based off how I write or my ideas and thoughts. I feel confident about my writing if I was knowledgeable about the topic but other than that, if I found the topic to be boring then I get self conscious about who will read it and what they will think because I was not feeling too good about it in the first place. As far as revisions go, they do not bother me at all. It makes me feel better when I know I am improving on something and that I can make my paper stronger than it would have been had I not done the revision. As I revise the paper, I find it way easier to just get the whole piece done at one time rather than trying to break it up into smaller sections because then I will definitely get bored and want to find something else to do. Another tool that I have discovered to be helpful to me is having someone else read the paper for me. This way, they can see what I might not have noticed and can tell me what else I should change or tweak. The only problem with this though, is that I only like to have my family members or a friend reading it because I know they will be honest with me and will let me know if my writing was terrible or if I have a few things to

Everybody has probably experienced writer’s block sometime in their life, and it can be very frustrating. When you do get writer’s block, it makes you distracted because your mind goes off into its own world. The more you get distracted, the harder it is to concentrate. Then whatever it is you have to write ends up taking so long it feels like time itself slows to a stop, and your eyes go blurry from staring at the screen for so long. Seriously, that happened to me writing the first draft of this. It's especially bad when you have to adjust to a new form of writing. For example, first year college writing, papers in a new field of study, longer essays that you aren’t used to, or a long research paper, like the Senior Mastery Project, which should be called the Senior Misery Project. I especially hate writing for a reader who have been overly critical or demanding in the past, or when I remember negative criticism received in the past, even if the reader who criticized my work won’t be reading my writing…

My goal as a challenged writer is to always improve and show my best work. Though it usually takes quite some time for me to produce my absolute best; I often come across problems that constantly bring me to a halt. One of the difficult things to accomplish in writing is usually overcoming writer’s block. From the moment when I first started writing as a child, my main problem always seemed to be writer’s block. However, over the years I’ve learned to somewhat overcome my problem by just putting down the exact thoughts in my head, on paper. Though, it not always easy or works according to plan, it still allows me to perform to the best of my skills. Overall when writing a paper, my first priority is to get the thoughts from my head into the paper. Even though, it may be difficult whether from grammar choices or writer’s block, in the end writing and finishing my assignment and getting a better grade is something I look to improve with this…

Every activity has its advantages and its disadvantages; the same is true with my writing. The fact that I may leave something out or just simply forget it is a huge disadvantage. When I start writing, I just go, which makes forgetting something very likely and dangerous. This is, of course, something that I would like…

This year I finalized my writing process and how I choose to go about writing my works. I focused on a number of Composition and Writing Process pieces in my portfolio. In the past, I was used to writing rough drafts for all my final papers and only occasionally would I write an outline for them as well. As shown mainly through the Cultural Identity process, the slower and more thorough of a process I take with my writing, the better it will be. Similarly, the rough draft I wrote for my persuasive essay showed multiple errors and places that need to be fixed and patched up in order to improve the strength of my message. For a good majority of the papers I wrote this year, I wrote an outline and a rough draft that was revised at least once. I believe that I have become accustom to a writing…

As the first semester of freshmen year comes to a close, we as an English 100 class have written about many different topics throughout the course. We started with an introductory paper about ourselves, followed by a paper that we shared what life lessons we wanted to pass down to our children, next came a description essay where we went into as much detail as we possibly could on one or two photos we found, second to last was a persuasive paper, and our final paper was all about any country we chose. As we went from paper to paper my writing only improved as I learned new skills and better ways to write.…

A personal experience that was really challenging to me was the time I had to write my thesis. I remember many late nights that turned out to be weeks, then months researching, writing, and editing back and forth many of my drafts, often wondering throughout the whole process if writing the thesis would be worth it in the end. I also remember worrying if I corrected every punctuation mark, looking again over every small detail wondering if it made sense, or if I had to get rid of it all together. During my research process, I was looking over articles and books of information, wondering how I could use any or all of it in my thesis. I then realized that I had to narrow down my sources or I would instead end up writing an encyclopedia. In that…

Writing is always there, staring at you in your face, and there's nothing you can do about it. I've learned this from my English teacher during my freshmen year of high school. He would always say, "You have to write to get far in life." It's true once you think about it. Writing is apart of our everyday lives in some way or another. Whether it's writing your name on paper, or writing a thousand page essay, you can't avoid it. My teacher was the most influential person in my…
