Describe My Writing Process
My writing process has always been a frustrating one. I like writing, but I don't think I'm very good at it. When I was younger, I loved letting my creative side shine by writing silly stories and pretending I was Stephen King, using words that I didn't even understand. My dad read me Shel Silverstein's books of poems and and drawings. Those books inspired me so much to write and to draw and be creative on a blank sheet of paper. I also loved writing in elementary school when there were no requirements. I could write about anything I wanted, and I got a good grade just for trying. However, now that I’m writing important papers for my classes that really matter now, the innocence of my childish writing doesn’t cut it anymore. Now there’s problems with my sentences and words, this paragraph needs to be longer, and I’m not allowed to put a comma here or …show more content…
I knew what I was talking about, and I could just spill the information onto the paper. However, if I am writing about pretty much anything else, I feel like everything I am writing is not good enough. I get stuck after every sentence, kind of like I am right now. It’s hard for me to have a lot of opinions and things to say when I don’t know much about the subject. It’s hard for me to write about my writing process when I don’t really even know what my writing process is. I’m not confident in my writing so I am always questioning myself. It’s so frustrating thinking about getting a grade back on a paper I have recently written only to see a very mediocre grade. For the most part, I put my all into that paper and of course it’s not the best thing ever written, but I tried my best. It’s so discouraging and makes it even harder to write another paper, especially when all I can think about is that I’m probably going to get a bad grade on

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

I am afraid of writing badly. Upon several discussions with my peers and even the highly published faculty, I find that I am not the only one with this problem. The “Importance of Writing Badly” by Bruce Ballenger and “I Know What I Want to Say, but I Can’t Say It” by Barbara Fine Claouse, both address this issue. The latter article mainly lists different techniques to tackle the writer’s block, whereas, “ The…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

As a student coming fresh out of high school I am still used to writing as I have been taught since I was in middle school. We were taught to outline, make a first draft, have someone read that draft, revise and then hand in the final copy. This is a long and boring process that has not changed and is always so repetitive. We always had to write five paragraph papers about things that would never be relevant to my future. In this class I hope to change my approach and how I feel about writing.…

My Writing Process Writing is a process that came about because people believed that it was critical to record what was happening and being created at that time. Many people view writing as a formal and elaborate form of communication, when in reality, writing is just an extended form of speech. The stance I take on my writing is that when someone else reads my work they should hear my voice and envision me reading the paper to them. Because of the philosophy I have on writing, I avoid the formal process that includes 13 multi-layered steps.…

Having writing class growing up has changed my life. It has taught me numerous lessons, ranging from discipline, to being a finisher, to expanding my appreciation of beauty. But most importantly, has transformed my character. Compared to my other homework assignments, writing has been the most engaging, meaningful, and mind-opening experience, because every new piece challenges me to live up to my full potential . Writing exemplifies what writing has taught me writing for the sake of writing without being attached to the result. When I first started, I looked forward to finishing the essay and receiving a good grade. My attention was completely oriented towards the end product. But as I matured into writing , I have learned to write for the joy I feel in the creative process itself, not for the result. for me, the most difficult aspect of writing is starting. It’s quite intimidating to look at a blank page and try to fill it with something substantial. Some days I feel that my creative juices are dried up like an African desert, which results in me staring at the blank page while anxiety builds. But the writing process is not for the faint of heart. With no inspiration, I strive onward, and sweat and struggle and strain to get something on page. I force my brain to conjure…

If I had a time travel machine, I would love to go back to our class’s first meeting. It was such a memorable day. I was so nervous that my first piece of writing seemed less than mediocre as I reflected on what I had written that day. While being happy that my name was randomly chosen to be added to the class, I was very scared of this class. The last time I wrote an essay was two years ago, and before this class I had forgotten how to write one. I believe good writing requires lots of practice, and I have not practiced my writing for a long time. In addition, my reading was not even up to par since I only read books required for my classes. I did not do much reading outside of my discipline, and that is not a good habit for anyone who wants to better their writing. Through this class, I figured out my composing style, which is crucial since good writers should be aware of potential advantages and disadvantages of each style. I think my critical reading skills have been dramatically improved thanks to different types of analysis frameworks I learned. As I contemplate what this class has taught me, it would probably take pages to list all the things I learned from my professor, classmates, textbook, and my work. However, the major lessons I have learned are the reading and writing strategies that help me form many good habits to become a better reader and writer.…
