Talisman Energy Inc. (Talisman) is an independent Canadian oil and gas producer. Talisman is a company that has been through a great deal of criticism due to their negative experience in Sudan in previous years. They were accused of numerous things such as fueling the civil war, believing the Sudanese Government was using oil revenues to purchase weaponry, and of being complicit in human rights abuses because of fees and royalties paid to the government for the rights to explore oil and gas. Now, Talisman is faced with the decision of whether or not they should enter into Kurdistan, knowing that the same thing can happen there as it did in Sudan. The KRG is asking for $220 million in exchange for allowing Talisman to search for oil reserves. Not knowing what the KRG will use the money for, whether it’s to improve economic development or to purchase weaponry creates a dilemma for Talisman. The board of directors had first-hand experience of the damage to Talisman’s reputation. With proper due diligence and continuous re-evaluation of the situation in Kurdistan, Talisman should now find it easier to discover political risk and solve problems before they arise.…

When people are genuinely positive, they have better outlooks and results in all parts of life, including education and friends. “Despite limited attention from researchers and practitioners, SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behavior Supports) has potential to positively affect inclusive school reform and outcomes for students with severe disabilities.”(Enyart). Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is not a modification plan for students with difficult behaviors; it is a system for modifying the environment; as well as the way that teachers respond to these difficult behaviors. "Such environmental interventions, in turn, serve to make problem behavior less effective, efficient, and relevant and desired behavior more functional" (http://www.ldonline.org ). Teachers first should utilize a functional behavioral assessment in order to determine if there may be different reasons for similar behaviors. If behaviors originate from two different motives, each behavior should be dealt with using different support plans. Steps in assessing such behaviors are: Define the problem, answer key questions, observe and record antecedents, behaviors, and consequences, develop a plan, use the plan, revise the plan (Positive Behavioral Supports for Special Educators). I believe Shell bears much responsibility for the problems in the Ogoni region. One reason is the fact that Shell has received nearly $30 billion worth of oil from the Ogoni land but has not helped the Ogoni people by providing them with jobs or money to develop their lands. It is not often that I actually read a book that is prescribed by a teacher, but when I get the vibe that the teacher is there to show us more than just a science; I listen up. Sitting through the first class, knowing that BADM 772 was going to teach me both in education and more importantly, life lessons, I began to read. Selecting three chapters from the book, Bringing Out the Best in People, written by Alan Loy McGinnis, I read without falling asleep. For the first time in a long time, I agreed with everything that the author had written. This book gives pointers on how to “bring out the best” and does it in a way that keeps you interested, by telling stories and giving examples. I chose the three chapters carefully.
