Why I Want To Attend A Spring Break Essay
There are multiple reasons as to why I want to attend a spring break trip this year. I have always been interested in studying abroad, but because I am in the Physician Assistant program, spring break is my only option to have that opportunity. I am interested in learning about healthcare in other areas of the world and bringing back what I have learned and utilizing my discoveries when I become a Physician Assistant.
My interest in attending the Germany trip was sparked at the open house presentations. To be honest, Germany wasn’t necessarily the country that I thought I would choose, however, I believe that it is the best fit for me because of the opportunities that it will provide that are closely relevant to my career as a Physician Assistant. My advisor, Bianca Villaruel, is a leader for the Germany trip and that solidifies my decision further.

Theresa’s Church. Last spring break I attended a service trip in the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee. The area that we went to was the second poorest county in the state. During my time there, we helped fix up houses of the people who live up in the mountains. These people lived in cheaply made, small houses that I couldn’t imagine living in, especially raising a family in. Throughout the week we put in new carpeting, painted walls, and built porches for the three families. My experience helped me be more grateful for what I had and opened my mind to how people in our own country live. Although my spring break experience this year will be much different than that, I believe that it was very important that I attended that trip first because it provided me with a foundation of what I want to do every year during spring break. Also that trip helped me mature and grow as a person which will make the transition to a location out of the United States much

Prior to European exploration, there were already many other explorations going around the world. For example, we have the Vikings of which people have theorized that they indeed discovered America centuries before Columbus actually did. There is one further piece of evidence that displays even more people discovered America before Columbus: Chinese pottery that were not indigenous to the people at the time. However, even though Columbus did not discover the Americas first, European Exploration still had a more immense impact within their world and our modern world today.…

Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…

Over the summer before my senior year in high school, I was given an amazing opportunity to go to Nicaragua. I was able to expand my spanish vocabulary by teaching a class of adults and children english, talking with many of the locals and venders. The service learning program I went with was Global Glimpse. We learned more about the day to day life of the locals in a third world country. For the service part of the trip we helped improve a local school. We redid the bathrooms, classrooms, and the kitchen. We painted the inside and outside of the bathroom and added a smaller attachable toilet seat for the younger students. Many of the parents who volunteered to cook the lunch for the students said that they needed new cabinets for the dishes…

The move Amistad and the story “Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano” have many similarities. The three similarities between the story and Amistad are the ways that the slaves were treated, the conditions of the ships, and the reactions of the slaves. In both the movie and the book slaves had to overcome horrific conditions to be freed, In the movie the main character Cinque was captured sold and thrown onto the Amistad and into the life of slavery but yet he was fought for and he finally made it home, In the story Olaudah finally was also on a slave ship and was sold into slavery.…

The reason why this program appeals to me is that I will get to visit a place that I have never seen before. I will be able to view the German culture without stereotypes, and also live in the culture and learn from it. It would be like learning about a whole new world. When I go back home from Germany, if I get selected, I’ll be able to share whole new culture with my school peers. Most of my peers have never traveled past neighboring states, let alone the country. In turn, I would tell the people I would meet in Germany about my own culture and explain the American quirks and behaviors. I enjoy sharing my own culture with people who have never experienced it. My personality has always been adventurous, and I always enjoyed visiting new places…

Every year, for the past five years, my church youth group has gone on a mission trip to St. Louis. This mission trip was called The St. Louis Project, sponsored by Global Encounter. The St. Louis Project was a week long trip, during which you would go and have a kids camp at either a church, mobile homes, or a park to teach children about God, then come back to the “home” church, where we slept, to have worship services. The first year we went was my seventh grade year, there was a small group that year, only consisting of about 13 maybe 14 people. That year, Global Encounter had told us of an international trip to El Salvador they were planning 4 years from then. My whole youth group was very excited and couldn’t wait to go.…

Their feedback and experiences led me to look into the different opportunities and places that Alternative Breaks offers. When I found the trip in San Francisco, I felt that this program would offer me more leadership and volunteering opportunities. My favorite aspect of this program is how University of Oregon students can get together to help out communities and discuss the social issues important to our communities. From what I have learned from other students, Alternative Breaks can be a starting place before volunteering for the Peace Corps or Teach for America. This spoke to me because Alternative Breaks will give more volunteer experience in these communities. This program caught my eye because I love to travel, help out communities and I believe it would be a great leadership opportunity for…

In tenth grade, I went on a missions trip with my church to Mink Lake, which is a camp by the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota. During the missions trip, we prepared a camp for the summer. Some of my personal jobs were to help clean out two sheds and reorganize them, haul logs, and trim trees all over the camp. The trip benefitted myself and the other people on the missions trip because we were able to help people have a fun experience at camp over the summer, and we also helped the people running the camp to not have to work so hard to prepare the camp for the summer campers. Another reason it was a good experience for all of us workers is because we did not have our cell phones, so we were able to form new relationships with each other since we were not constantly distracted by our…

I am spending my time volunteering at St. Marks United Methodist Church (St. Marks UMC). This church is an open community, working to create a comfortable atmosphere for anyone and everyone in and around the area. I work specifically with the youth of the church and I reach out to students who are my age or younger than me. I have been volunteering at St. Marks for almost four years, assisting in many different groups and organizations sponsored by our church. I volunteer at this church because it has given me an opportunity to be myself, explore talents, and make strong connections, and I want to help continue this effort and reach out to kids who are struggling with a lot of the same difficulties I faced. I believe that volunteering here is a great experience for someone studying psychology because you meet and get to know many kids who are facing various issues in their lives.…

Over the summer of 2015, I volunteered at Harmony Hall in Bassett, Virginia. Harmony Hall is a nursing home for the elderly. I had heard about this agency during the last couple of months in my senior year in high school from my friend, Kanan Patel. She had volunteered during the winter of 2014 and she instantly fell in love with the mission, the staff, and the residents. When looking for a place to volunteer, I came to her for references, and she quickly directed me to Harmony Hall. I began working with this agency the following summer.…
