Terrorism: The Threats On The United States
Threats on the United States have been spiraling around for decades. It’s not always just outside sources threatening the millions of American lives, it can also be people who live on the same street as you. It’s common to mistake what terrorism really is, especially without knowing the history of our nation. When you hear about a shooting at a school, or attacks on any specific race, what do you define that as? Well, if it’s not terrorism, you’re mistaken. Any of these awful attacks should be defined as terrorism to this nation. The killing of Americans in America should be just as noticed as ISIS and other terrorist programs. Truth be told, they should all be noticed as equal threats. When these shootings appear on the news, what kind of shootings are they? Are they Muslims shooting at our citizens of the United States? Probably. But citizens of our country, people who have lived here from birth, decide they can take the lives of our own people. Students who participate in school events with their peers can easily take their lives from them with ease. As of 2013, there have been 161 shootings reported in or near schools, according to the article “161 School Shootings In America Since 2013” (2015). People all over the United States are afraid of terrorism. It’s common nowadays since the constant threats we have on our nation. But, there are kids who take weapons to school that could easily result in people being severely hurt or killed. It’s the same thing, domestic terrorism. A recent report by the article “Urban Institute” reported that there were over 336 gunshots near schools in the Washington D.C. school district. A school shooting most people heard about occurred before the 2013 mark, the shooting of Sandy Hook Elementary school. There were 26 people dead at the scene (CNN, 2015). Nearly thirty people had their lives taken away from one of our own American citizens, what did the press and the people do about this? Not much from what most of us have seen. We can see a rise of threats and violence from right-wing extremists. According to an article written by the Global Post (2015), there are twice amount of citizens being killed by american groups than attacks from Muslim extremists. Many incidents have been heard of occurring to race and one incident happened not too long ago. In South Carolina, nine people were killed by a white male. The man believed that the white race was more superior than the black race. Also, two white supremacists went on a killing spree, killing four people before stopping. To add to this, a married couple walked into a pizza store and killed two policemen, and dropped a swastika on their chest. They then went to Walmart and killed their third and last victim (Global Post, 2015). But of course, there are no threats and attacks from one individual race. You see headlines of black gangs like the “Bloods” and the “Crips” ruling the streets, but the truth is that there is no set race committing acts of violence to the people of our nation. Everyone’s crimes of assault, rape, and homicide are equal to others. Domestic violence is people committing terrorist attacks on people of their own nation. Cops are forced to realize that they are also targeted, they have warning packets so they can stay safe from all right-wing groups (Kurzman and Schanzer, 2015). People are scared of gangs, supremacists, and extremist groups. All
