Selection and Staffing
January 22, 2013

It is extremely important to have a staff that keeps a business running effectively and efficiently. Having proper recruitment procedures is highly important to proficiently staffing an organization. I have recently started my own organization and I need to hire a staff. I know how important it is to hire the right people to work for me. The purpose of this paper is to explain the procedure I would use to staff my new organization.
Choosing who you select to join your business is one of the most important decisions a new business has to make. The first step I would take in hiring a staff is to analyze what exactly I need help with in my business. It is extremely hard to run a business on your own. I need to decide what tasks I can do on my own and what tasks I need to delegate to someone else. I also would need to look into whether they would be a full-time or part-time employee.
Once I realize the positions that I need filled, I will need to write up job descriptions of what I expect my prospective employees to do and what the employee can expect. I will need to detail whether or not the candidates need to meet any educational qualifications or past experience qualifications. I also need to come up with a list of personality characteristics that I think my future employees should possess. It is important to recognize that some positions will require different personality traits than others. Finding a candidate with the right qualities and the right skill set can be extremely difficult.
My next step in the staffing process would be to figure out a budget for my business and figure out how much of the budget can be designated to paying my new staff. I need to make sure I can afford to pay a good and fair wage to attract quality candidates for my business.
Once I have determined a budget I can put an ad in the newspaper or on job websites detailing the types of candidates I am looking

Staffing today has changed greatly and presents many challenges for organizations. Many candidates are not as easy to find as they used to be. Many potential candidates are usually already employed. Many potential candidates that are already employed are looking for work but not aggressively. There are reports that suggest that more than half of the employees who work for other organizations are very interested in seeking new employment but often times are not making themselves known since they are looking so passively. This makes it difficult for many organizations to staff their agencies. Positions in the organizations are vacant but there not enough candidates applying to fill the vacancy. This can be difficult for organizations to have a healthy pool of candidates to choose from. Without a healthy pool of candidates positions can be left vacant for a longer period of time and it can become a detriment to the organization.…

The next step is to set up the interview. Of course you want to screen through the applications and pick the people that seem qualified for the position. The best way to assess whether someone is qualified for the position is to look at past work experience. Ask the applicant to share relevant, past experiences. If the job requires special tasks, ask those specific questions. How does one work under pressure or how do they deal with deadlines. Always make sure to ask open ended questions and ask for…

A review of the literature revealed that there continues to be no clear staffing method based of patient acuity for inpatient psychiatric units. More research needs to be conducted once staffing models are developed, but there is a clear need for mental health units to have their own staffing models based on patient acuity (Hanrahan, 2012; McKee, Harrison & Smith, 2006). Research has been conducted on several aspect of how inappropriate staffing levels have an impact on the rate of violence on units, the effects of the level of licensure on staffing and patients, and the types of patient care that is missed when staffing levels are low. Research proves that higher staffing levels during high activity times was associated with few assaults and…

Dr. Sharon Fletcher Recruitment and Selection StrategiesFormulating a thorough recruitment process is essential to ensure the right individuals are hired, efficiency and effectiveness are achieved, and subsequently organization goals are met. Considerations in the recruitment and selection plan include: organizational strategies; understanding the workforce, comprising projected needs, diversity objectives and demographic changes; company branding; recruiting approaches; screening procedures; and selection methods. While Landslide Limousine (LL) and Clayton Commercial Construction (CCC) have distinctly different requirements, both companies need to design a comprehensive recruitment and selection process as part of their overall business strategy to ensure they hire the best candidates and limit turnover.…
