All managers want to know the best way to identify whether a candidate's characteristics and motivations match the behaviors needed for their organization? A behavioral interview is the can be a great tool to identify candidates who have the behavioral traits and characteristics that one believes are essential for success in an organization (Heathfield, 2015). A behavioral interview, the organization ask the candidate to pinpoint specific instances in which a behavior was exhibited in the past. The best interviews, the candidate is not aware of the behavior the interviewer is a verifying factor. Use a job specification and write a description to describe the requirements of the position. Have the required outputs and performance success already predetermined? If there are personnel’s performing the job successfully, list the traits, characteristics, and skills that these workers bring to the job. Have the list narrowed to the key behavioral traits the job applicant needs to be able to perform to do the job? Write job posting that describes behavioral characteristics. The job description requirements should match the job posting when it comes to the characteristics section of the job’s description. A list of questions should be prepared in both the behavioral and traditional sense to ask each individual during the behavioral interview (Heathfield, …show more content…
Use phrases like: Tell me about a time; Think about a situation where you had to do or did; give me an example of; or what information should you obtain? All of these questions are an example on to gauge what an individual did in the past and a perfect way determinant to see how that person would react in a future situation.
A great example on an action/self-motivational questions: Tell me about a time when you were bored on the job. What did you do to make your job more interesting? Ask the job candidate what is the best way to motivate you? How did you take initiatives at your previous job? What kind of rewards is more to your liking? What discourages you from doing your best on a job? Tell you went above and beyond your duties to finish a job or a project? Did you get any recognition? Yes, or No, how did that make you the individual feel? (Luther, 2016).
Make a list of the questions, both behavioral and traditional, to ask each individual during the interview. A structured list of behavioral interview questions makes for a strong employee selection and allows you to make comparisons between the various answers and approaches of your job’s candidates.
