Schools Should Ban the Use of Mobile Phones Among Students
Greetings and salutations I bid to the Master/Mistress of Ceremony, honourable adjudicators, esteemed timekeepers, my worthy opponents, and members of the house. Today’s motion is ‘'School Should Ban the Use of Mobile Phone among Students”. We, the government, totally support the motion.

Members of the house, let me define today’s motion…

According to Wikipedia, school is defined as an institution designed to allow and encourage students to learn, under the supervision of teachers. Whereas the Concise English Dictionary states that school is an institution for education or instruction, especially one for instruction of more elementary kind than that given at universities. As stated in the Longman’s English Dictionary, ban refers to an official order that prevents something from being used or done. The use of mobile phone literary means the act of utilizing one of the most popular gadgets of today, the mobile phone. Lastly, the word ‘students’ is the plural form of the word student. In this case, a student is a person studying at a school, university or other place of higher education.

In a nutshell, today’s motion proposes that the school ought to prevent the act of utilizing mobile phones among pupils.

Members of the house,

As the government’s team, my teammates and I strongly support the motion that schools should ban the use of mobile phone among students. Nowadays, these long-range, electronic devices are equipped with many additional services and accessories. Short Messaging Service, or more likely known as SMS, email, gaming, Bluetooth, camera with video recorder and MMS for sending and receiving photos and video, MP3 player, radio and GPS are some of the examples. Students tend to overuse these features of the mobile phone, and thus, resulting in the many social problems that we have today.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I, as the 1st minister of the government team, have defined clearly our motion today and will be introducing our first point.

With this incorporation of technology in the classroom it can provide more depth in the lesson, and collaboration among students. Some teachers may see the use of cell phones in the classroom as disrespectful. They perceive this as disrespectful, for they took time to prepare the lesson, and the student is not paying attention. In actuality the student is not disturbing others, and if they decide to not pay attention,…

One claim is that students should be allowed to have their phones on them and use their cell phones during appropriate times. In the article, the authors provide details about how there are numerous reasons why cell phones should be allowed during school. Restriction of bringing cell phones to school may be good, but it also causes resentment among parents and officials. In the first place, nowadays increasing numbers of parents are purchasing cell phones for their children. They want them to bring along their cell phones at any time, in order to know their whereabouts and enable their children to make contact with them in case of emergencies. Of equal importance, students occasionally must inform their parents or drivers if they have last minute school schedule changes or something has to be done after school hours. Furthermore, there’re only disadvantages to go against parents, and prohibiting cell phones can also lead to inconvenience for students.…

"The ban, which was implemented by the Bloomberg administration, went into effect in 2006, but Mayor Bill De Blasio championed the policy change, saying that he thought it was important for parents to be able to easily contact their kids." (Kiema) Some teachers think it would be nice if cell phones weren't allowed in school but since they are they should use them to their advantage. As soon as the new policy is in place starting in March, individual schools in New York City will be able to establish their own policies concerning cell phone use in the classroom, leaving many teachers to determine how they will react to the phones in hallways and classrooms. Students should be aloud to have their phones because it is also a way for parents to contact their kids during school hours or vice versa. It should also be aloud if the students have practice and then it got cancelled so they would have to call their parents and tell them about the change in plans. Truth is that some schools are open to the cell phone idea and some aren't.…
