Sample Essay 'Mustache It'
I would give the sample essay "Mustache It" a B-. The title grabbed my attention, however while I read the essay, I felt like as the reader, I wasn't really engaging with the writer. The essay, in many ways, is similar to what I have read in the past. Nonetheless, the writer did a great job by providing a strong thesis and backing it up with examples. Something I'd recommend for the writer in the future is to add a bit of personality in the essay. I've learned that grabbing the attention of readers is key to have what we write be remembered by many.

When reading the students paper, I found numerous mistakes that he had made. He wrote the paper about the dark knight and, in my opinion, it was a good movie. I think that, first of all, I would have to say he tends to use a lot of commas in the in the second paragraph. In which he could have broken it down into a few sentences, rather than one sentence. Another time is in the third paragraph where he rapidly names of the actors and actresses. He could have spaced them out and said a little bit about the characters. I would change this because it would give the paper more character and would be more appealing with the different character that is in it and how good they were. I also think that the writer could have written a better conclusion paragraph. He only has one real sentence in it and the other sentence was only four words. I would have taken all of the information that I explained in all the other paragraphs and just summarized them up. I would have made the paragraph at least a minimum of three or four long sentences.…

I think my strongest essay is Rhetorical analysis essay about Tobias Wolff’s “Bullet in the brain.” I spent so much time on the assignment and introduction is good. I think the introduction is one of important part of the essay. Because the introduction grab reader’s attention and make them to read more. I had to follow the instruction given by the professor. I stated my specific topic and I wrote about one topic in my whole assignment. I read the book over and over again, and I analyzed the book from a certain point of view like a book critic. My work was well organized into paragraphs. Each paragraph focused of a single part. Also, I used transitions to help my assignment flow more smoothly.…

3.) The concluding paragraph was awful it may have had a thesis statement but the ending could have been better. This writer fell short with the last sentence “I hope to be able to read more short stories similar to this, ones that I can really get into and feel as though I am the narrator himself in the story”. That just didn’t appeal to me at…

Later the work becomes a little repetitive but the points made are valid. The focus of the essay seems wayward on occasion with the student more concerned with what the book teaches the reader. The final paragraph sums up the essay reasonably well. However, there is much to praise in this essay. The student constantly quotes from the text and her quotations are well chosen and supported by intelligent comment. On the other hand, it is a little disorganised and does not stay firmly fixed on task. It would seem that the student has decided on her list of qualities and then given examples to support her points. She misses the chance to link the qualities to the reaction they inspire in the children. This is Band 4 work and deserves a mark of 29. There is no doubt that the student’s engagement with text is good,…

The idea was fine, but it is hard for readers to make their own opinions. The first two essays were easy for readers to either agree or disagree with the author. This essay on gummy bears is hard for readers to understand where the author is coming from because they cannot taste all of the gummy bears themselves, which is understand. The essay was well written and gives a lot of detail, but there is still a sense of uncertainty to the readers. While it does provide a bit of trust for the author, the readers aren’t as engaged because they cannot form their own opinion. Other than that fact, the essay was well designed. Criteria and methodology was understandable to relevant to the…

Interesting discussion. The essay holds together nicely (though you do slip a little too heavily into plot summary in the middle, but you do regain focus at the end). I would suggest that you go back and look at the openings and closings of paragraphs—as these could be much more effective.…

I struggle with Rhetorical Analysis essays, but this particular paper seemed to puzzle me more than the other rhetorical analysis essays that I have come across this year. The score I received was an 8, and I was honestly quite surprised to see that. I knew I had written a paper to pass, but to show that I had sufficiently written the paper shocked me. This essay was tough in particular because the rhetorical strategies were very difficult to locate. I noticed that Richard Rodriguez wrote using a lot of compare and contrast, so I based my essay off of that. With that idea, I elaborated the technique in great detail, and that may have accounted for the high score that I received. The paper was very well structured, but it was very one-sided in my opinion. The main reason I was unsure about a high score was due to a lack of inclusion of other rhetorical strategies. I knew that the paper was well written, but I was not necessarily sure how well I was going to do. While reading sample essays released from Collegeboard , I did notice that they were looking for something to do with compare and contrast, and I believe that is why I scored to high on the paper. I did not know that compare and contrast was a rhetorical technique, but it is good to take your idea, and let your thoughts flow. That is how you create very strong writing.…

I could not personally take a stand on the subject, I felt like I was writing the same thing everyone else was writing. Although, paper two was a little more difficult I learned to deal with the differences. I still think that my paper two can be improved by making more detailed arguments. I am so used to having a different paper with argument in to rather than an informative essay. My weakness for this essay would be lack of description. I was told my description for my topic of paper two would be long, however, mine was short because it was to the point. Although paper two was not my favorite paper, it did help me learn to write in a different style compared to argument based…
