Nursing Class Reflection
While taking this class I was able to learn several strategies for taking nursing exams. I learned three Ideas that will use during the unit exams, final exams and the HESI exam. As instructed by Silvestri (2014), I learned to read every word of the question completely. In the past I would quickly read the question and over looked a key word(s) like “do first” or “priority”. Secondly, I will determine if the question presented is a positive question where they are asking for the nurse to do something, or I will determine if the question presented is a negative question where they are asking “what should the nurse avoid”; “which prescription the nurse should question”. Finally, during the priority questions I will use the ABCs and Maslow’s Hierarch of Needs technique to answer questions that are based on nursing.
Regarding the question on how this class helped me to be successful in nursing school, it really did not help me to be successful. My lowest grade in my junior one term was an 84 and my GPA was 3.25. So far for this term my average class grade will be 88. In fact this class took time away from studying for other classes,

Straker Kelman (2007), presented information regarding pre-reading before a lecture class begins. I found a few tips that I feel that I could use in pre-reading that will help in taking notes. Since we do not have lectures per say, but we do have recordings of lectures. I can implement prior to listening to the lectures or prior to taking notes on the chapter. In this instance I feel that pre-reading will speed up my note taking, which will save me time so that I can spend on other study tasks. I found this information to be so helpful I made my two boys read this section because in public high school they are not taught this learning strategy, in fact they do not even use their books and the school they attend is a highly rated public

My father was absent thru out my life. But I have many father figures in my life. Who gives me the best guidance and always told me to provide for myself don’t depend anyone else. To carry on my own weight as a child to instill it into me. As a child I was always asked what would I like to be when I grow up & I would always say a doctor. Over the years I’ve came to the conclusion that I would be a better Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists than doctor. The thing that made me choosing nursing was my mom. About three years ago she was hospitalized and the nurse was the one that took care of my mother when family was there. They made her stay much better and did everything to make her feel comfortable. But with this degree from Southern I plan attending LSU for my masters. After receiving my master’s degree I plan moving to Texas. I plan to work in a children hospital because they are our future. After about two years of being a CRNA I plan on going back to college to get another degree. I want to be a strong well educated woman that takes care of her self and doesn’t depend on anyone other than God.…

Introduction Creating a plan of study for the NCLEX motivates me to prepare well, focus, and work hard in order to achieve a passing score on my first NCLEX attempt. Checklists and goals have helped me survive nursing school, so it’s only fitting that I continue to use these methods of organization throughout my time studying for the NCLEX. Effective studying and planning for the NCLEX can only take place if I am aware of my individual strengths and weaknesses when it comes to NCLEX content. Northwestern College’s nursing program has provided me with many different resources in order to determine specific areas of weakness or strength such as Kaplan, HESI, and ATI tests.…

I believe that implementing strategies to promote, maintain, and restore health is key to the nursing career; the main goal of nursing is to improve an individual’s health. In my clinical experience, it’s to maintain the individual’s health issues or diseases. An example of using teaching/learning principles is when taking a resident’s blood glucose a family member asked me what the normal range for blood glucose is. I explained that a blood glucose level between 70-100mg/dL is desired. Then I went on to explain that based of the resident’s blood glucose levels a certain amount of insulin will be administered. I also taught the family member that insulin is a hormone that helps the cells take in glucose; which results in the cell using glucose as energy and a decrease in blood sugar…

For my finial reflection I have decided to reflect on the reflective practice itself and my abilities to practice reflection, as it appears I am having some issues with the process. After receiving an A- on my last reflection, I spoke with my Faculty Advisor (FA) with the intention of discovering why I was not achieving marks in the A+ range on my reflections, and what I need to work on to improve on the quality of my reflections. Her feedback was that I was too broad in my approach; I spend too much time discussing the event and did not go into enough depth in my reflective analysis. I hope and anticipate that this reflection will be better; as I hope to demonstrate a deeper analysis of the issue and techniques I can use to improve my skills.…

I am a nursing supervisor and this course helped me to better understand and collaborate with other nurses and what nurses lacking. Only a low percent of hospital board members are nurses and a majority are physicians. I believe nurses need to prepare themselves for leadership positions and get involved in committees, boards, and other influential positions. Taking relevant graduate courses can help, but we need to further improve our skills by serving in the community or nonprofit…

I enjoyed interacting and learning from you in this course. As nurses, we often ignore the financial aspects of health care. However, as emerging nurse leaders, we have to anticipate actions in response to a rapidly changing financial environment. There are many instances in the recent past that will affect me greatly in my educational pursuits at Colorado Christian University. I am currently employed as a full time nurse and have been for the better part of the last five years. In that time, I have worked in several different settings; I’ve worked acute care, critical care, obstetrics, pediatrics, emergency care, and long term care. No matter what setting I’ve worked, I’ve noticed that my personality and faith play a big role in the care I provide my patients. Another key component that affects the care I provide is my knowledge; I am always looking for ways to expand that knowledge. In the past, I haven’t put a lot of effort into my schooling. However, with my growing experience as…

I am one of the first and the few fellow Class of 2015 Nursing students who were faced with numerous adversities and unfortunately stripped of the chance to attend the pinning ceremony. Due to my current situation, I am urged to address this regrettably experienced in the nursing department. I have been enrolled in the RN evening nursing program at Essex County College since 2013. Recently in our last semester, which ended in December 2015, the scheduled exam dates were accelerated directly after our mid-semester examinations. This affected all of the assessments, including the date of our final exam. Due to this unexpected change, all course work for the semester was either crammed, rushed, or abandoned, all leading to the detriment of the…
