My Writing Reflection
Over the course of my high school career I have managed to pinpoint my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. I critique myself in all aspects of my life due to my highly competetative personality so it should come as no suprise that this includes my writing. My list of weaknesses are indeed much longer than my strengths but that list continues to expand. The most grade damaging habit I have, as do many others, is procrastination. Its an epidemic that sweeps through high schools across America and ails many into adulthood. This habit has plagued me since second grade, the first year homework was introduced to me. I have just now started to get this issue under control but it is a daily struggle of mind over body. The simple fact of the matter …show more content…
There are several practices, organization especially, that I most definetly need to work on. When writing a paper I start writing by hand and re write it three or four times. It sounds okay until you realize that it happend to be a five page paper and it has taken two hours a draft. I have a scattered train of thought so the numerous drafts are a must. There is no way I can turn in a paper that is poorly written without being incredibly restless in fear of a poor grade. Pairing the high quantity of drafts and my procrastination you can see how this may be a bad combonation. The only way to fix my organization problem, as far as I know, is to practice and to continue writing. My biggest problem has to be my poor analyization skills. The connections I make are just grassping at straws. The best analyzations I have are from the internet, they're the same conclusions everyone else in the class comes to but I never see them by myself. Due to this I find myself being repetative and I hate repetition. This is the sole reason that I can't make a good concluding paragraph. It's the last thing anybody reading sees, it has to be strong and well rounded but anything that repeats just gets to

I find writing a very neutral subject because I am not terrible nor excellent at it. I have always written enough for it to be satisfactory. Therefore, I believe that one of my strengths as a writer is being able to understand what I have to write about and knowing what I want to say. I question myself every step of the way, asking myself “ Is what I am writing, answering the topic that I am addressing?” However, with that said, I believe that my weakness lies in that fact that I cannot put my thoughts into words. I have a vast amount of ideas that never get a chance to come alive on paper. I feel that I am not very good at transitions and sentence structures. Another weakness is that it takes me an awful long…

When I look at myself as a writer, I see that I have my own strengths can also be weaknesses. One of my strengths I feel that I have as a writer is that I am very critical of my work. I review multiple copies of my writing. This tends to help when I am critiquing the overall voice and direction of my paper. A weakness of mine that is worth when it comes to my writing is the fact that I do not always understand or accept what others say about my writing. What I mean…

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

I now have a more efficient system of planning and write multiple drafts before I feel at ease with submitting an assignment. Not only that, I now feel confident when writing papers and am able to complete assignments with little or no writers block. Although, writing in college has not been the easiest. It took me a while to transition to this level of writing and took a lot of hard work to get to where I am at now. Sometimes, I find myself over reviewing an assignment before I actually turn it in. Not that this is bad, but at times it takes me longer to submit an assignment than it…

With all this being said about my writing weaknesses I still find ways to enjoy writing and work past the struggles in writing- I may not be the most organized writer in the world, while the graphic organizers do indeed help me, but I always find myself changing my mind on what to write, whatever sounds better to the ear to me. My desire to change what I already have written may be why I’m unorganized at times. One thing that anybody that truly knows me knows, is that I rarely ever quit something once it is started, and I will continue to do my best until it is physically impossible for me to do…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

    My Strengths As A Writer

I have always had faith in my writing capabilities; however, it wasn’t until I started my first year of college English, that I realized no matter how great of a writer I thought I was, there was always room for improvement! Some of my strengths as a writer include personality, voice, and the ability to add transitions that give character to my writing style. I have many weaknesses in my writing: grammar, spelling, punctuation (which I happen to be working on every time I write), and many other quirks that a brilliant writer would catch. Between paper one and paper two, I have mastered projecting my “voice”, as well as my personality. I like my papers to feel as though I was sitting next to the reader and chatting with them about my story.…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

My biggest issue is grammar. I am not good at using proper grammar when writing at all. I don’t know when to use commas, semicolons, and other things appropriately. I either use them to often in the wrong places, or don’t use them at all and my sentences get very big.…

    My Writing Improvements

A weakness that I have improved on throughout the semester is organization of my writing. A lot of the times I would know what to say…but just not how to say it in my writing. When you specifically talked to me about articulating my ideas better through speaking versus in my writing, I began to change my writing into more of an outline format. I mostly realized that my organization changed when I was finished with the final research paper. As you are very well aware, I chose a very confusing topic. I felt like my writing was a little bit “all over the place” in the definition and cause and effect papers because I had little clue as to what I was talking about. I realized how much knowledge I needed of a topic itself in order to even come up with a proposition of the future of what may occur in that field. It wasn’t until I had started over on the research paper about three times when I finally decided on a thesis. When I finally chose something that I could clearly outline and argue, my paper had more of a natural flow to…

I can improve my writing by practice and diligence. Being that I am in a writing-based program, I know my writing needs to improve. Constant writing and critique from my professors will shape my writing in the long run. Time management is another issue that I’m having. I can change that by making a schedule for myself and following through with it. It’s essential to organize my life and make time for things that need to be done. Money management is probably the most difficult for me. Being young with no real responsibilities, you think you can spend your money whenever and on whatever you want. It’s imperative to come up with a certain spending plan. I will break it down into savings, daily expenses, and monthly expenses and so on. This self-assessment will hopefully push me and improve my skills so that I can excel and succeed, in life and in this…

I have found that one of my most hindering personal flaws is the fact that I have always been a rather spectacularly terrible speller. This of course was discovered when I began elementary school and started to learn basic reading and writing. In reading I flourished (a bit to be expected as my mother is a librarian) but in writing I continually struggled with spelling. Unfortunately, this caused me to become greatly discouraged with my academic ability for quite some time. Throughout elementary school and middle school it was a fight for me to get my schoolwork done. And by the time I got to high school I was very unmotivated, even though I was at that point trying much harder to get my work done.…
