My Strengths As A Writer
I have always had faith in my writing capabilities; however, it wasn’t until I started my first year of college English, that I realized no matter how great of a writer I thought I was, there was always room for improvement! Some of my strengths as a writer include personality, voice, and the ability to add transitions that give character to my writing style. I have many weaknesses in my writing: grammar, spelling, punctuation (which I happen to be working on every time I write), and many other quirks that a brilliant writer would catch. Between paper one and paper two, I have mastered projecting my “voice”, as well as my personality. I like my papers to feel as though I was sitting next to the reader and chatting with them about my story. I enjoy displaying enthusiasm and excitement to the reader. I try to give emotion and feeling, in whatever I choose …show more content…
I felt as though it came naturally, when I tried applying transitions into my papers. I have positive remarks on both of my previous papers. Due to my ability to place a transition in a sentence, my papers are more professional and flow smoothly.
Consequently, with all of my positive feedback on my strengths as a writer, I have found some negative habits in my writing style. From the very first paper I ever wrote in college until now, I have learned quite a bit about my writing and how to improve on my grammar. While deciding which words read better throughout a sentence and making sure the words I use are proper, it is important for me to give a strong sense of understanding to the reader; thus, having a well written and more educated paper. I have never been horrible at spelling; however, if not for the autocorrecting tool, I would need to practice my spelling. As has been said, my spelling has improved, due to the fact that my English professor has helped me realize the error of my

As a writer, I never doubted my abilities. I know about past flaws and I’m sure I’m still oblivious to the current one’s I’m making. One flaw that it visibly noticeable throughout my work in high school is with the use of transitions and how the work flows together. In ninth, English I and II, the works were choppy and lacked even the smallest transitions, but when looking at works from English IV (AP English) or from this class, they’ve greatly increased in usage and my writings have become increasingly smooth.…

Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way. I believe that I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to my writing abilities, and hopefully that will continue to grow throughout my time in this class.…

Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own theory of writing.…

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

In the past a thousand weeks, I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the quarter ends, I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived my fifth quarter but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Somehow, after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into my papers that I wrote in this quarter, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas. With help from an awesome teacher and my partner, I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…
