Reflective Essay: My Writing As A Writer
In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper. During my first year of high school, we prepared for the …show more content…
I finally thought of what my paper was going to be about, and I began writing. Since I had no time to think and plan my paper, I felt flustered.
Last year, in my English class, I had to write a research essay on texting and driving. We were given three weeks to plan, research, and write the paper. I went home and began to look into the statistics on the number of people involved in car accidents as a result of texting and driving. I found quotes from people who had caused an accident, which resulted in death, because they were texting and driving. Once I had gathered all of my research, I started to write my paper; my thesis based on the facts and information gathered. When I finished my paper, a peer reviewed and made edits to make sure there were no mistakes and recommended ways to improve the paper. On the day the paper was due, I was more confident than ever in the work that I put into my essay to make it the best one I had ever written. The reason I was so confident was that I had the time to plan my essay and research facts, quotes and statistics to make my paper sound and look very well put

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

Two years ago, I would say nothing in particular provokes me about writing. I would rather spend my valuable time on presentations or discussions than writing research papers. I always found myself was lost. I couldn’t focus on the content of my prompt. I failed to make my words convincing and authoritative. I am not a good researcher, also not an outstanding rhetorical writer, even today, but I did find something valuable on myself in these two years.…

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

When one masters a certain practice, one becomes confident and nearly perfects the practice either because one had guidance or practiced continuously. I have not put myself in either one of those situations. To be honest, I write ‘put myself’ because I believe I had the choice of removing myself from classrooms to another better one; and the choice of being able to discipline myself to practice writing continuously.…

First, I must say that I am a writer that procrastinates a lot. I’ll have good intentions to start an essay when I first get home, but then I get hungry, look up car parts, and lose interest in writing the piece. But, once I get in the swing of writing I can normally stay focused. I usually write essays in a calm, quiet environment, occasionally…

Throughout my writing experience I have always struggled with my body paragraphs. I tend to always have a strong introduction but once I began to go into my first body paragraph I lose my train of thought. One of my main issues is that I get to wordy. Which then leaves me with fragments. Lastly, which I’m sure most people have an issue with is basic grammar errors such as, spelling and placing commas. I feel that my writing has had a small progression. Through this class I have learned more writing techniques that have helped me as a writer.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Writing is definitely not my favorite task, but I don’t hate it either. I would say that I am indifferent towards writing. However, writing is a skill that needs to be honed and mastered, because it plays such a key role in almost any career. So when I started working in the lab I was a little apprehensive, because I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. But through my work in the lab I have observed so many different levels of students and how that plays a role in their writing and style; I have even learned some facts about the way I write that I was not aware of. I have learned that I am not very confident in my own writing skills, and I need to work on my writer’s voice.…

I feel the material I have learned in this course has qualified me to have met the WST requirement. When I initially started this course I felt like my writing was about average, not weak, not strong. My ideas about writing were relatively simplified, and my understanding of different writing styles and concepts were quite general. However, throughout each assignment within this course, I felt my writing skill and understanding become significantly stronger.…

I think that out of the six stages: understanding the assignment, making a schedule, prewriting, researching, drafting, and editing/proofreading, the step I find most difficult is making a schedule. I find this difficult, because I don't quite get the concept of making a schedule to write a paper. I understand that making a schedule for things that you have to do is very beneficial but I don't understand have to make a schedule to write a paper. I could try to improve by asking my teacher, my TA, or a peer for examples on how to make a schedule.…

Sweat slowly trickled down the side of my face. Every second brought a sharp “tick!” from the clock; every second caused my stomach to sink lower and lower. I started to feel the pressure increasing second by second as time crept closer and closer to the deadline. Hastily, I wrote my introduction like it was nothing; a simple four sentence introductory paragraph. Words were flying through my head, channeling all the way down to my fingers. Abruptly, I looked at the clock and it was already 11:31 PM. I told myself, “I can do this. It’s a lot easier than I thought!”. I felt the adrenaline rush kick in as I started to write my body paragraph. I craved the euphoria that I felt as I wrote my essay; the pressure that overwhelmed me was simultaneously fuel to my mind.…
