Narrative Essay About My Personal Flaws
I have found that one of my most hindering personal flaws is the fact that I have always been a rather spectacularly terrible speller. This of course was discovered when I began elementary school and started to learn basic reading and writing. In reading I flourished (a bit to be expected as my mother is a librarian) but in writing I continually struggled with spelling. Unfortunately, this caused me to become greatly discouraged with my academic ability for quite some time. Throughout elementary school and middle school it was a fight for me to get my schoolwork done. And by the time I got to high school I was very unmotivated, even though I was at that point trying much harder to get my work done.
Even my initial struggles with spelling in my first years in school made me thoroughly disenchanted with homework and tests. I always preferred the parts of the day when we could read silently or draw with our assignments. And as time went on I started to refuse to do my spelling homework. Some of my earliest memories of elementary school are of my mother trying to get me to do my work. She always believed that I could do the work and was always willing to help, but I was really stubborn. Consequently I started to have to spend extra time out of class with my

This not failing to be at least partially due to the exceptional teachers I was so fortunate to have in my last few years of public education. These teachers have helped me move past my struggles and improve my work. My experience of being a terrible speller has really been a growing process throughout my life and school experience. From the time I started elementary school to even now as a first year college student, I have had to push past my insecurities with my academic skill to grow into the student I am proud to be [now/ today

A personal quality that is important to me is my willingness to try new things. This quality did not surface until I graduated high school-- I felt somewhat restricted during those years. After my first semester at community college the eagerness to explore new activities, and learn about new topics began to appear. Because of this quality-- a quality that can sometimes hide amongst the rest-- I would not have discovered by passion for my desired major.…

After a lot of introspective thought, my three biggest obstacles are my typing skills, time management, and my ability to read and spell. To begin with, my typing skills are limited to hunt and peck. While I have purchased software to help me learn, it will not happen overnight. My limited typing skills make the timed portions of my classes nearly, if not completely, impossible. For my career, this will handicap my ability to perform in any employment situation. Secondly, time management is a key part in education and career goals. Learning to balance a full time job, school, and a family with two small children is difficult. If I do not learn this art I will became very overwhelmed and one of the realms will suffer and possibly fail. Lastly, my trouble with reading and spelling. As a dyslectic that dropped out of high school, this is my greatest concern. In my education, it will affect the comprehension of the course work. In my career, it will directly affect my performance on everyday activities. These three challenges have the potential to make my education and career goal difficult to obtain.…

I also am terrible at spelling, I think a big part of that is sounding out words. In middle school I was very blessed to have a teacher named Ms. Carver, she helped me a ton with reading from where I was to a reading at a score of 115 ish to around 700-800 which hasn't changed much to now. I would go inside almost every day doing lunch just because I wanted to learn how to read like the other kids and I am willing to work as hard now. Taking this class is a big step for me, from being in all special ed classes in middle school to now taking this class! Another struggle I have is my health, I have problem with my stomach, such as IBS. I seem to get sick very quick but this summer I've been working on my health and my hope is to not have any flair ups that make me sick doing the school year. My long time goal in life is to be in the medical field traveling and helping people in one way or…

After completing the StregthsQuest survey, I learned that my five greatest strengths are Harmony, Competition, Achiever, Includer, and Communication. Some of these strengths I had previously recognized as a strength, but a few were a surprise to me. Growing up, I was always a competitive person. I enjoyed the thrill of winning, whether it be in a team effort or individual effort. Also, I have always wanted to achieve great things in both my personal and professional life. I believe that I have always been great at communicating with others and love to include others in everything that I do to achieve a goal. The biggest strength of mine that surprised me most was Harmony. However, after reading about each strength, I know how I have utilized…

A major theme in my life is improvement. I challenge myself to take risks and set high expectations for myself. For instance, I strive to run faster and for longer distances every couple of times I approach the treadmill belt. I am obstinate about my minimum distance, 2.2 miles, and my minimum speed, 6.8. A major component of improving myself is learning. Every new word is a miniscule enhancement of my massive English vocabulary pool, but it is still a step in the right direction. I enjoy becoming more knowledgeable in both domestic and international affairs. I wish I could have more time to pour into reading current event and health articles. I am particularly attached to drumming the latest scientific discovery or innovate biotechnology product…

As the oldest and first generation Russian- American daughter of two humble immigrants, with limited knowledge of American schools and there system and what they teach in school , homework had been my greatest obstacle. My parents were able to teach me the basics. Such as numbers and letters, how to add and subtract, multiply and divide but anything after the few years of basics, I was left to figure out anything else on my own. Sure they tried but it wasn’t what they grew up learning. My father was a drop out because it was hard holding up a family farm without any hands helping so he couldn’t help me and my mother and I never had a good relationship, so a wasn’t able to come up to her and ask her to help. And so they were not able to help…

It is necessary for a person to want to get rid of a force controlling them. Also, it is commonly known that with growing up, homework should be expected in order to receive a full education. This meaning, every child for twelve years is supposed to make school a priority, and then get an occupation once they are an adult. While I accept this, every student should have the right to pursue other aptitudes which they will use late in life as a career. That being said, homework has caused a great problem in my day to day life.…

Finally, homework is very demanding on kids. “In most U.S schools, homework has become more demanding and time-consuming (scope magazine, pages 20-21, lines 33-35). Studies have shown that most kids feel very stressed about schoolwork and homework. There is a lot of pressure to do well in school. Some kids feel like “if they don’t get help from their parents, they will be at a competitive disadvantage with classmates who do.” (scope magazine, pages 20-21, lines 69-72).…

Believe it or not I have not always been as bright as I am now. There was a time when I was the kid who struggled in many of his classes, not the one that people went to for advise on a subject. I hated school because it was extremely hard for me. I was born on May the 11, 1994 in Nashville tennessee. I came from a well to do family and when i was of age was enrolled into private school where i spend the rest of my schooling up through high school. It was evident at an early age that there was something different about me. the first sign was my speech impediment, for the life of me i could not say the letter S every sentence i spoke was a struggle. Then it was reading and spelling. I was behind most of the other kid in both, I read slower and could not spell the same level words as the other kids. It was so bad that in kindergarten i was made to repeat it. Then came elementary school which went much better then preschool had gone, but i still struggled with things. Then in the third grade my parent took me to get tested to determine my mental ability. That is when i found out i am dyslexia. dyslexia is a learning disorder characterized by difficulty reading, spelling, and in young children affects there speech. This was devastating to me, because as a third grader all i wanted to be was normal, and at the felt like people would think i was retarded. through all of this my parents only encouraged me, telling me that i could overcome this setback. That is exactly what i set out to do. Starting in the fourth grade every afternoon i would leave school and go straight to tutoring at the learning lab. I hated this because while all my friends were playing at home i was studying but i knew that it would be worth it. My parents also made me take adrenal which i thought was super embarrassing and i can remember to this day hiding them in the cracks of the table or under my chair so i would not have to take them.…

I felt this sense of fear, but I knew it was just nervousness. It caused my whole body to tremble. I creeped onto the field and pass by the fifty girls and all of the coaches. Just me walking by everyone gave me this ginormous knot in my stomach, it made me feel like I was going to pass out right on the field. I was breathing heavy, like I just ran a marathon. I was beyond nervous just to be the new girl on the field. I was scared of what the girls thought of me, and how the coaches thought I would play and adapt to the sport. I had never even picked up a lacrosse stick and the girls were passing, catching and shooting on goal: how does a new player get to there if they were two week late into the season? I was terrified I would never get to the level of the rest of the team.…

We are all humans; therefore, we all make mistakes, but one thing that comes out of our mistakes is a lesson well learned. As I look back to all the things I've done, I regret the time I felt ashamed of myself. Easter of 2004 my godmother decided to invite us to her house for an egg hunt. I was told by my mom that the eggs had candy and nothing else. As we were heading out, I decided to bring my little purse, and we got inside the car full of joy. We were on our way to my Godmother's house for the egg hunt.…
