My Writing Habits
When writing a paper for a class I notice myself to have some writing habits that can be both useful and effective. In all my writing I have an experienced a good and a bad memory when writing a paper. In writing, I consider the best memory is when I am confident on the paper that I am writing. I don’t only consider memories during the process but also during the results, like receiving your paper back with a good grade on it. It is great to receive good grades at the end but during the process I have seen some difficulties during my writings especially when I am trying to put into sentences that make sense and is grammatical correct. The reason I think is a difficult thing that I face when writing is that I tried to put all what is in my mind

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

The Wichita Kid from “The Gunfighter” by Alden Nowlan and a young man living on the streets of Calgary both demonstrate that we fear what we do not understand. Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. Although you feel major misery there is rarely anything you can do to support them without getting deeply involved.…

I learned that my audience didn’t really know anything about my past. They had no idea what it was like for me to be on bed rest for a few weeks with only books and note pads. My goal as a challenged writer is to always improve and show my best work. Though it usually takes quite some time for me to produce my absolute best; I often come across problems that constantly bring me to a halt. One of the difficult things to accomplish in writing is usually overcoming writer’s block. From the moment when I first started writing as a child, my main problem always seemed to be writer’s block. However, over the years I’ve learned to somewhat overcome my problem by just putting down the exact thoughts in my head, on paper. Though, it not always easy or works according to plan, it still allows me to perform to the best of my skills. Overall when writing a paper, my first priority is to get the thoughts from my head into the paper. Even though, it may be difficult whether from grammar choices or writer’s block, in the end writing and finishing my assignment and getting a better grade is something I look to improve with this…

My writing process has always been a frustrating one. I like writing, but I don't think I'm very good at it. When I was younger, I loved letting my creative side shine by writing silly stories and pretending I was Stephen King, using words that I didn't even understand. My dad read me Shel Silverstein's books of poems and and drawings. Those books inspired me so much to write and to draw and be creative on a blank sheet of paper.…

As a student coming fresh out of high school I am still used to writing as I have been taught since I was in middle school. We were taught to outline, make a first draft, have someone read that draft, revise and then hand in the final copy. This is a long and boring process that has not changed and is always so repetitive. We always had to write five paragraph papers about things that would never be relevant to my future. In this class I hope to change my approach and how I feel about writing.…

My Writing Process Writing is a process that came about because people believed that it was critical to record what was happening and being created at that time. Many people view writing as a formal and elaborate form of communication, when in reality, writing is just an extended form of speech. The stance I take on my writing is that when someone else reads my work they should hear my voice and envision me reading the paper to them. Because of the philosophy I have on writing, I avoid the formal process that includes 13 multi-layered steps.…

Over the course of the years I have been in school, my writing has developed greatly. My writing has evolved throughout the years but this semester is when my writing became the best I have seen it. Due to my experience and my evolution of writing, my definition of good, effective writing may differ from other people’s perspectives. Defining something as “good” can be quite vague in the sense that good means many different things such as desirable, righteousness, and well. In my first and second “Theory of Writing” paper, I stated that the aspects that make writing good and effective are: having ideas that flow together nicely, not drifting off topic and to not be redundant with your word choice and sentences. I still at this point in the semester…
