Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. The daily scream therapy of my neighbour in the shower does not fail to act as an alarm clock every morning. This daily “alarm clock” was a good enough reason to not succumb into the pressure of calling the police. The rhythmic sound of everyone’s steps outside gave birth to the gravel, small as peas which moved beneath their feet and from it a faint dust rose, the perfume of the town. This perfume I had to get used to now, this perfume I will smell for the years to come. This foreign town was now my new home, away from all the sadness, unfulfilled relationships and the past, a town full of versatile people, some doctors, some painters, some chocolatiers and some farmers, all with big houses towering over them. A town still rich with bicycles and kids playing in the streets early in the morning, the streets filled with the aroma of bread this all felt very new to me, I was a city dweller, this made me feel great unease.…

After reading “The Writing Process” in chapter 2, I learned the major aspects to writing a well-developed essay. The methods in developing an essay are: finding a focus, developing a thesis statement, drafting, and editing. Firstly, finding a focus plays a crucial part because when there are many ideas in mind people tend to have trouble focusing on one topic. After settling on a topic, the next step would be to create a thesis statement. The thesis is a statement that relates to all the ideas and the essay should be centered on the statement. Likewise, drafting brings in a lot of ideas for a paper. Drafting essays allows plenty of editing time. While editing essays, one might come across grammatical errors. Identifying errors and correcting them will make the essays sharp and to the point.…

My Writing Process Writing is a process that came about because people believed that it was critical to record what was happening and being created at that time. Many people view writing as a formal and elaborate form of communication, when in reality, writing is just an extended form of speech. The stance I take on my writing is that when someone else reads my work they should hear my voice and envision me reading the paper to them. Because of the philosophy I have on writing, I avoid the formal process that includes 13 multi-layered steps.…

I wrote essays and papers when I previously attended college. Each of my instructors usually wrote good remarks on them. Of course, that was years ago. Since returning to school, I am realizing that I have a lot of work to do, especially if I want to write great essays. So far, these lessons have identified some of my usual common mistakes, such as using the thesaurus too much and the basic rules of writing (Bethel University, n.d.). The thesaurus is useful when used correctly, but I have been guilty of completely changing the meaning of my words (Bethel University, n.d.). I realized that using harder to pronounce words made it harder for others to understand my writing (Bethel University, n.d.). As I continue to practice my writing skills each week, I believe that my co-workers,…
