Long-Term Memory Analysis
The development of long-term memory on the high school level involves the utilization of instructional strategies they can be used to improve a student’s ability to process information for longer periods. For students to become productive academically that must develop the skills and receive strategies from the classroom teacher that aides their abilities to retrieve information quickly and efficiently when needed (Pampas, 2015). Some instructional strategies helpful in assisting high school students with enhancing their long-term memories are having students to repeat material they have learned verbally, presenting information in various formats, informing students on the relevance, emotion, and meaning of the material being instructed, connecting stores that help students connect on an emotional level to …show more content…
The brain is consisted of over 1 billion neurons and the more often these neurons are stimulated and firing with each other the more likely information is saved into long-term memory bank (Pampas, 2015). As an educator, we must provide students with methods they can utilize to study material while in class and at home to develop repetitive habits for learning material. The more often a student is presented with information the easier it will become for them to retrieve learned material. Next, presenting information by using multiple formats were provide students with multiple ways in which to obtain information. Providing students with scenarios that create positions for the students to place themselves in will help in connecting learn material in a more first-person manner. Multimedia serves as another way to present information to students in a communicative manner through listening, watching, or interacting with. The advancements of technology provide multiple ways for students to utilize multimedia as a way of learning and improving their long-term

    The three memory techniques that work best with me are jingles, words, and pegging. I recall information through jingles to be more effective. I memorized telephone numbers of my faculty with a jingle I made up. Their numbers are the same but their extensions are different, so I recalled the information easier. The least effective to me was the story lines because if I am able to create a story I will end up going off track and confuse myself. I learn more from a jingle than words or pegging. As long as the jingle is catchy I am able to retain any information like lyrics from the gold fish commercial; “The snack that smiles back Goldfish”. Every time I come across any goldfish I think about the song. Plus as a visual learner I can connect one thing to another. Using the words memory technique I can also retain information. I used words before this exercise to remember order of operations with PEMDAS; please excuse my dear aunt Sallie, for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add and subtract. Using the pegging technique for history is a good way for me to hold on to information as well. In order for me to understand what events happen during a specific decade I use different color note cards to separate the events. I try to make connections through colors; for instincts all the events I am required to learn through the 1970s I use a green note cards and blue note cards for the 80s and red cards for the 90s. In the future I will practice the VCR3 memory technique because of the visualization and concentration.…
