Long Term Memory
How is information stored into your long-term memory? * Information is stored in long-term memory on a relatively permanent basis, although it may be difficult to retrieve. * Long-term memory is intended for storage of information over a long time. Information from the working memory is transferred to it after a few seconds. Unlike in working memory, there is little decay. * The transfer of material from short- to long-term memory proceeds largely on the basis of rehearsal, the repetition of information that has entered short-term memory. Rehearsal accomplishes two things. First, as long as the information is repeated, it is maintained in short-term memory.
More important, however, rehearsal allows us to transfer the information into long-term memory
How does information stored in your long-term memory affect your critical thinking skills? * Mainly, information in your long-term memory will affect your critical thinking skills in two ways: 1.) Reflections on past critical thinking experiences, which allow you to apply the same process with confidence and/or improve upon past [ experiences, and 2.) Learned processes and skills, which you can work toward applying but you may not be as good with as those above * Information stored in your long-term memory keeps experiences, senses. These experiences' and senses' outcomes affect the way your body uses the information. *
