Leading by Example
In a leadership position, I have a responsibility to my team. They look to me for guidance and strength, that's part of what being a leader is. So I constantly question myself before I ask someone to do something, will I be willing to do so if I was being challenged. When leaders don't "practice what they preach," it is almost impossible for a team to work together successfully. How can anyone trust a leader who talks about one thing, but does another? They may not trust that you're doing the right thing, or that you know what you're talking about. They may no longer believe in you. The vision you're trying so hard to make happen may lose its appeal, all because your team doesn't trust you anymore

When you lead by example, you create a picture of what's possible. People can look at you and say, "Well, if she can do it, I can do it," you make it easy for others to follow you. Mahatma Gandhi, Jack Welsh, Alexander the Great are leaders who changed the way the world and accomplished great things because they lived by example.

My personal favourite is Ingvar Kamprad. He quote “If there is such a thing as good leadership, it is to give a good example.” True to his words, Mr Kamprad is seldom besuited so at Ikea, suits and tie are not required. Despite his extreme wealth, he frequents cheap restaurants, flies economy class and haggles for bargains at the market in the Swiss village near Lausanne just as he conceptualise Ikea to be, modern furniture at a bargain. Leading and living by example allows the team to know that you'll also do whatever you expect from them, they'll likely work hard to help you achieve your goal.

Good leaders push their people forward with excitement, inspiration, trust, and vision and I inspire to be a leader who leads by example, simply because I believe trust and unity goes further than promotions and material

My leadership philosophy is about making genuine connections to people. In order to influence people to be great leaders, all the key factors should be tapped in to in some capacity. I make sure my actions speak louder than my word. I lead by example by rolling up my sleeves and showing team members I am not just an army civilian but a part of the team. This philosophy applies to my life whether at work or home. I credit these key factor as the core of becoming a great and effective…

“Real leadership is leaders recognizing that they serve the people that they lead.” This quote, spoken by Pete Hoekstra, speaks volumes to the true essence of what it means to be a leader. Leadership is all about the people. Many people incorrectly assume that being a leader means that the people you lead are there to serve you. This presumption could not be more inaccurate. Being a leader means serving your teammates and being worthy of their respect and cooperation. I believe that Hoekstra’s quote applies to all forms of leadership- from being a captain of a sports team to being a Lead Scholar.…

I learned that you don’t have to show your authority and that you don’t have to be controlling to be a good leader. To be an effective leader, you have to be able to talk to people and be able to connect to the people you are working with. Letting everyone have a say in whatever decision needs to be made is a great way to get everyone feeling empowered and important. Depending on the type of team you have and the type of people you are working with lets you know what type of leadership style to use. Since our team was very self-motivated and productive, we didn’t have to rely on the leader telling us what to do. He would let the group know what the current situation was and asked how we should go about it. This really helped us to have our own opinions and voice and it worked out well for us.…

If you successfully lead by example, you will have paved a way for your successors. Like the fourth step of the law of legacy guidelines, “Prepare to pass the baton well,” leading by example prepares your followers to remain in line with your goals. Maxwell also provides an acronym for a leader leaving a legacy. It is based on Jesus’ idea for leaving a legacy. The acronym is IDEA and it consists of instruction, demonstration, experience, and assessment. All of these “ideas” are consistent with the leading by example approach to being a successful leader in the modern business world. I believe the most pertinent letter of the acronym would have to be the d, demonstration. In his description of…

A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.…

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

Leading by example is a reality and is important to me because it has shaped who I am. I used to look up to certain celebrities and aspired to be like them, which caused me to do certain things that they did. As I got a little older, I started looking towards my older brother as a role model and wanted to be like him, which caused me to develop other certain characteristics that I still possess.…

For example, in my workplace, my manager is one of those types of managers that lead by example. In order for any company or organization to meets its goals, the manager has to keep his or her team motivated and build lasting relationships with their team. If a leader does not lead by example, their employees are less likely to do the work that is requested of them. Leaders and managers also need to know how to delegate tasks, so they are not bombarded with all the work. If you notice within all organizations, the hirer you are in the company, the less “grunt work” is performed. Four characteristics that are found in good leaders are they believe in open communication, they do not stick with the status quo, they are selective in what they measure, and they have passion for values and culture. All these categories are essential to maintaining a vital organizational culture. When employees are…
