Instructions 1. Preparing the Vehicle * 1 Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. * 2 Raise the vehicle using the floor jack, and support it at the frame rails using jack stands on a flat, hard surface. Get the vehicle as close to level as possible. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a floor jack. * 3 Remove the rock guard from the transmission, if equipped. * 4 Disconnect the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal under the dashboard: use a flat screwdriver to pry off the retainer bushing and push the rod off the shaft on the clutch pedal, near the top of the pedal where it attaches to the pedal support bracket. Retain the bushing for reuse. * 5 Disconnect the wiring connector on the starter motor. Remove the retaining bolts from the starter motor using a metric socket wrench and remove the starter. * 6 Disconnect the hydraulic coupling at the transmission using the hydraulic coupling disconnect tool. Fit the tool over the coupling at the white bushing and pull on the line while pushing the tool toward the white bushing. * 7 Remove the shift boot retainer screws with the transmission in neutral and lift the boot up the shift lever. * 8 Mark the driveshaft and rear axle companion flange on the differential using the chalk, then disconnect the driveshaft from the flange by removing the bolts with a metric socket wrench. * 9 Pull the driveshaft toward the rear of the vehicle and disconnect it from the transmission output flange, using a metric socket wrench to remove the bolts. * 10 Disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission by turning the knurled nut by
