How Does Odysseus Show Bravery
Odysseus and I demonstrate bravery in various ways. The first way Odysseus demonstrates bravery was when he wasn’t scared to approach the Cyclops to give him some wine. Odysseus said, “Cyclops, try some wine. Here’s liquor to wash down your scraps of men” (904). This shows bravery, because Cyclops could of had Odysseus as a snack but Odysseus thought of a different way and gave the Cyclops some wine to make Cyclops drunk. Although Odysseus gave Cyclops wine, he also managed to poke his eye out. He “ bored that great eye socket while blood ran out around the read hot bar” (906). This shows courageous because Odysseus did poke Cyclops eye out. While he was drunk and asleep. Odysseus was courages that he yelled back to the cyclops to tell him

Odysseus put himself on the line to protect his men day in and day out. He knew about the Sirens and how perilous they are “ Then all at once the wind fell, and a calm came over all the sea, as though some power lulled the swell.” (Homer, The Odyssey part 2). The Sirens make men jump off their ship if they hear the beautiful breathtaking voices. Odysseus had his men tie him up to a pole on the ship and made his men put wax in their ears so they don’t hear the voices. His men would know when it was safe to take out the wax when Odysseus calms down and doesn’t move or do actions like he want’s to jump off the ship. This shows an infinite amount of leadership and bravery from Odysseus because he sacrificed himself for the good of his men. He…

Displaying the characteristic of loyalty is an important quality of being a leader. Odysseus in The Odyssey is loyal to not only his companions, but his wife and homeland as well. In the introduction of the story, told by Muse, she recalls that Odysseus had “... weathered many bitter nights and days in his deep heart at sea.. To bring his shipmates home.” (7-9) Odysseus went through many hardships to allow his shipmates to return to their homes. When Odysseus arrived at the banquet held in his honor by the daughter of Alcinous, he “… weeps as the minstrel’s song reminds him of all of his companions… “ (758) in remembrance of his shipmates that were killed by their own recklessness. Odysseus has portrayed courage through being persistent in every situation, especially when being stuck within Polyphemus’ cave in Book Nine. In order to escape the grasp of Polyphemus, Odysseus had to face the cyclops by stabbing its eye. Homer describes the moment of defensive attack, writing in Odysseus’ point of view, saying, “I drew it from the coals and my four fellows gave me a hand, lugging it near the Kyklops as more than natural force nerved them; straight forward they sprinted, lifted it, and rammed it deep in his crater eye, and I leaned on it turning it as a shipwright turns a drill in planking, having men below to swing the two-handled staff that spins it in the groove,” (Homer, 412-419). Odysseus has been shown to pertain the qualitative trait of bravery and courage because he did not go against any mere foe, he went against a cannibalistic monstrous giant that had more physical strength than all of his men combined. Instead of running away in fear, Odysseus thought about him and his men’s live, strengthening his mental and physical ability in order to face Polyphemus, the cyclops that can easily break him in two. Odysseus’ bravery in defeating Polyphemus has attributed to him the portrayal of a hero, for he was able to save not only himself, but his men that have survived alongside…

Odysseus is not a modern day hero because he tricked his men into thinking that he has logos. He convinced his men to be as brave as he is when they were going to fight through scylla. He does this because he knew he whould not get eaten while his men whould. as shown in this quote he gives his men ethos to get them ready “Well, I walked up and down from bow to stern, trying to put heart into them, standing over every oarsmen, saying gently, have we ever been in danger before this.” after he told them this they went to scylla and fought. Odysseus also has bravery when he stabbed the cyclops in his eye, he told him that his name is nobody to trick him. he also disguised his men as sheep so that they could get out of the cave. But one reason that is…

While Odysseus and Spiderman differ in many categories, their level of bravery is truly matched. In The Odyssey, Odysseus’ bravery reaches new heights when he starts a controversy with the Cyclops, which is a primordial race of giants. The Cyclops that Odysseus gets face to face with is named Polyphemus. This demonstrates bravery because most humans don’t talk back to a creature that can finish you off with one finger. In the screenplay Spiderman, Spiderman exemplifies bravery when he fires off a thin strand that sticks to the surfaces of buildings, as a means of transportation. Many lose their breath at the sight of Spiderman flying from building to building using a piece of string that looks like the size of dental floss. Although, Odysseus and Spiderman would make a good team when it comes to bravery, they aren’t exactly two peas and a pod when considering their lack of intelligence.…
