I believe that Odysseus was both justified and not justified, in his decision to not tell his men that they will not make it back to Ithaca. The background of this scene is that a god comes to Odysseus and tells him that his fate it to make it back to Ithaca. The god also tells Odysseus that he will be the only one to return to Ithaca. Odysseus decides that the only way that he can make it back to Ithaca is if he lets his men believe that they will all make it back to Ithaca. Throughout the rest of the story Odysseus doesn’t say a word about himself knowing the men’s fate. Just as the god had said, by the time Odysseus got home, all his men had died.…

Homer in the text, The Odyssey, talks about how disloyal people are paid back with enormous harm. Odysseus, a great epic hero, was disloyal himself as he had cheated on Penelope because he sleeps with Circe. This scene is clearly presented by the quote, which says,“ Straightaway she began to swear the oath that I required -never,...,at last, I mounted Circe’s bed”(Book#10, line# 383-386). This quote shows how Odysseus’s feeling of lure had won over him and had ruined 1 year of his life. If Odysseus had never been taken over by his bad emotions, he could have reached Ithaca a year earlier. Another example is the women servants, who were helping the suitors, were also killed brutally. In the book their death scene is described as,‘‘ With that, taking a cable used on a dark-prowed ship he coiled it over the roundhouse…- so the…

Odysseus should feel justified for his actions for killing the suitors. After being gone for twenty years and coming home to people living in his house. Also trying to take the only things he got left like his son and wife. Odysseus should feel more justified for killing those who were involved with the wooers so now he knows who is loyal and who is not. Those are reasons why Odysseus should feel justified after killing all of those people.…

The three instances in which the Greek warrior culture's emphasis on Kleos ( immoral frame attained through glory) creates conflict for Odysseus throughout his journey is that the desire for glory is a good thing for Odysseus and Kleos. Another thing is that is could not be good for Odysseus's friends and family but for Kleos. Another thing is that if it was not a good thing for Odysseus and for Kleos then I don't think that Odysseus or Kleos would get to where they are now. The thing that Homer might be saying about the desire for glory is that it would be good for Odysseus and for Kleos because I don't think it would be good cause it would be good for Odysseus and Kleos.…

The suitors steal and plunder Odysseus ' hall, feast on his food, take his maids to bed and all the while, each trying to take Penelope 's hand in marriage.1 When Odysseus returns, he knows all about the suitors, and schematically kills all of them with no mercy. One may judge Odysseus ' actions as unnecesary, an suggest alternatives of imprisoning or banishing the suitors, however, in order to judge him we must first determine how the Greeks see things. The Greek worldview is not based on a religion that establishes a set rule of governance, so the Greeks have to come up with their own morals. Naturally, the Greeks want to preserve themselves and their civilization, so anyone who goes against their civilization is almost always dishonorable in the Greek worldview. The worst way one can go against society is by committing treason against an honorable ruler, because he is the heart of Greek civilization. Another influence in the Greek worldview is that of the gods. The gods do not know everything about justice, but if they all agree that something is just, than in the Greek worldview it is just. With this being said, the suitors deserve to die in the Greek worldview. Why do they deserve to die? In the Greek worldview the suitors are evil, death is a necessary punishment for evil when logical, and the gods approve of the suitors ' deaths.…

As their leader, Odysseus makes the decisions that ultimately determine their fates. By the time he reaches the shores of Greece, Odysseus is the only one of his men to make it home. This fact alone points to flaws in his abilities to lead his men. Odysseus fails as a good leader because of three character flaws: opportunism, arrogance, and egoism.…

After Odysseus fought in the Trojan war for 10 years he started home and had to face many battles. While he was going through these battles he had to risk some things to get home safely. One of those lessons was either him and all his men die all at once with the boat or he loses six of his men. “Better to mourn six men than lose them all, and the ship, too”(Homer 12.70). This happened with Scylla and Charybdis when Odysseus was trying to get back home but didn’t want to be seen by Zeus. Another lesson happened when Odysseus got home. He could of walked into his home and killed the suitors then and there, but he waited for the right moment to do that. While he waited for that time, he went into his home as a beggar and waited before he killed them.…

In these last books of The Odyssey there is a theme of double standards, Odysseus is able to get away with anything. Her method of choosing a competition: whoever can string and shot Odysseus’ bow, that only he is strong enough to shoot, through twelve axes wins her hand in marriage. Odysseus then threatens to kill her, when he kills all the other women, if she revels him. Odysseus and Telemachus set a trap for the suitors. They hide all the weapons, the only one left out is Odysseus’ bow. Once the men are drunk and the Penelope is gone to her room, the slaughter starts. Odysseus shots the bow through the axes and then shoots dead the leader of the suitors, Antinous. He then proceeds to kill all the other suitors with the help of his son, the swine herder, and the cow herder, despite the suiters offering to pay him back for the goods they had used. He is killing them for invading his home yet, when he invaded the Cyclops home and the Cyclops tried to kill him, he stabbed him in the eye. In the very end of the slaughter the…
