Odysseus: A Modern Day Hero
In the Epic, Odyssey by Homer Odysseus has to save his men and get them home. Odysseus is a modern day hero hero. He qualifies for the job because first he is brave, cunning, and determined. He made smart decisions and knows how to get out of sticky situations. Second he is brave and he is ready for whatever comes his way. Although the ancient greeks consider odysseus a hero epic hero, according Modern day to Ethos and Logos he fails to measure by modern standards.
Odysseus is not a modern day hero because he tricked his men into thinking that he has logos. He convinced his men to be as brave as he is when they were going to fight through scylla. He does this because he knew he whould not get eaten while his men whould. as shown in this quote he gives his men ethos to get them ready “Well, I walked up and down from bow to stern, trying to put heart into them, standing over every oarsmen, saying gently, have we ever been in danger before this.” after he told them this they went to scylla and fought. Odysseus also has bravery when he stabbed the cyclops in his eye, he told him that his name is nobody to trick him. he also disguised his men as sheep so that they could get out of the cave. He really wanted to see his wife and his son again when he got home. But he was not determined to get home he could have stayed at sea with his men and lived somewhere else and never come back to see his son and wife. He wanted to go through scylla because he would not die because he would only lose six men and if he hid he would not be one of those men. when he got home he was determined to get rid of all the suitors no matter what because they were at his house to long. He should have threatend them but not killed them and make them leave. If he was doing this in our time he whould be in jail. And he was done with
