Forks over Knives
The documentary Forks Over Knives is one of the most interesting yet informational films I have seen regarding health and society today and I was intrigued since the second I turned it on. It made it so much easier to understand and conceptualize because the film followed patients and documented their success stories; you were forced to believe in its truth. I found it to be inspirational and motivational. What I enjoyed most about the film was that the information that they provided was easy to understand and something that I actually never heard of before. You are not taught much about this specific type of diet. I was very overweight when I was a child and still am not in optimal shape to date. Watching this film provided me with knowledge to take my health into my own hands and create a better image of myself while achieving a healthy diet. I enjoyed that the film focused on average people in life with diseases and followed them throughout documenting their improvements. This was enlightening and it truly makes me feel like I can also become a changed person. I truly loved this film and there really is nothing I can say I did not like. However, the only thing that I wish was introduced in the film was maybe websites of where we can go to learn more about it, or maybe even explaining recipes that we could begin the change immediately. After watching this film I want to run to the grocery store and buy this food. The only thing is I can see myself getting overwhelmed and not knowing exactly what to purchase in order to create an ideal menu for the week. However, I will do my own research and look into this as I truthfully want to begin the change immediately. The entire film was motivational. It brought history into the mix, research studies and actual lives of human beings living in the world today. The story that I found to be particularly motivational was the story of the woman diagnosed with breast cancer. When a person in our society is

Many elements made this an entertaining film. For instance, the visual elements such as the battlefield’s special effects. Also the romance, the faith, the hope, the honor, and the triumph made this a captivating film. This film had a lot of criticism, but people need to face the fact that this is not a historical documentary, and that it is just entertainment. Yes the film’s setting is in the past, yes the film is about the Revolutionary War, and yes it deals with history, but that does not automatically make it a documentary. I would definitely recommend this to another student.…

This film elicits an array of reactions, and I believe that it provoked nearly every different kind of response in me. To begin, I was intrigued because it was so simple, thought provoking, and interesting that someone would devote an entire month and their general well-being to the accumulation of health information. This concept was downright insane in my eyes and I instantly wanted to know the end results. As the documentary furthered and his first week of ingesting McDonald’s food began, I became appalled. Around the third or fourth day, Spurlock vomited a fluorescent orange heap onto the ground merely from attempting to keep ingesting the food. As the long month in the film progressed, I became more understanding. I began to really understand the impact that what we put into our bodies has on us, not only pertaining to our physical health, but also our mood, sex life, and physical activity. I realized that there is absolutely no reason for us to be making the choice to make ourselves overweight from this food merely because it “tastes good.” While this case of Morgan Spurlock’s that was filmed for the movie was an extreme case in…

The documentary Forks Over Knives investigates the allegation that most of the degenerative diseases that affect us can be controlled, prevented, or reversed, by rejecting our current diet of animal-based and processed foods. According to the documentary, about 40% of our population is obese and about 50% of us are taking at least one prescription drug. While cases of diabetes are mounting, especially amongst our younger Mexican American and African American population. Americans pay more per person in health insurance than any other country in the world, but we are the unhealthiest country. Heart disease and cancer are the country’s leading causes of death, with at least 1 million deaths each year, although billions are spent each year to…

There were tons of key moments that impacted me and once that just did not make a big dent. I already listed a few moments that had a negative effect on me. The International Sign Language Theatre Festival towards the end of the film was amazing. I wish I could have gone, there were different acts from around the world, different types of acts, and a great thought. It was interesting to the different types of sign language across the world. It is similar to speaking, for example, certain countries have different type of language and that is the same with signing. Its inspirational characters and messages really made me think deeper into deaf culture. I wanted to learn more about deaf culture and more signing than just American Sign Language. The four many characters all touched my heart in different ways. Robert, the actor, no matter…

    Hungry For Change

After seeing the film, I am hungry for change. One of the first things that made me want to change was learning about food like products. These are products that have altered so much by manufactures that it has to be considered “food-like”. This can include adding chemicals, colors and unnatural flavors just to make a product. I want to be consuming actual food, not food that has been altered so much that it cannot even be called food. Also the fact that many companies hold their own tests and submit it to the FDA also causes concern. These tests can be skewed, but as long as it appears to be acceptable, it will be allowed. The possible addiction to sugar also causes alarm. The fact that sugar is being compared to cocaine in how addictive it can be, is very unsettling. Sugar is in everything, and because we consume it some much, we are already addicted to a drug in a way. The country is addicted to common substance that is being compared to cocaine. That needs to change. Finally, the idea that we are not evolved enough to digest the chemicals being put in our food. We are not physically able to handle what we are eating. Our bodies have not learned how to digest these foreign chemicals that we have been putting in our body for the last fifty years. The chemicals that we are adding to our food are so dangerous…

Lee Fulkerson aims to educate the public about the relationship between degenerated diseases and our everyday diets. Today, 1 in 5 children are obese. 2.2 trillion dollars a year is spent on food in America alone, five times more than our defense program spends. Adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet rather than consuming refined foods, processed foods, and animal products has been shown to significantly improve the health of those who are severely ill or obese.…

Children in Peru, with all different medical struggles. Children in Africa who don’t have much and Lepers who have been abandoned by society. However through all this sadness we see joy in all. Without a doubt, it's a hugely compelling and thought provoking movie and it makes you ask very poignant questions about yourselves or anyone around.
