English 12 Reflection
I have always struggled in writing original composition essays due to my inability to put my thoughts down on paper. Because of this I always take far too long coming up with ideas to write about and end up using all my writing time, leaving me with no time to write a well-written essay. However, this year my English 12 teacher has challenged the whole class by assigning multiple in-class essays with short time limits in the first two months of school, making us think more quickly, but also write more efficiently. I have seen a vast improvement in my writing since the very first essay we were assigned to the most current one. Especially during my thinking process, I could feel as if I was getting my thoughts on the paper much clearer than I

I use to think that being a teacher was going to be a short eight hours of teaching and being with children. Having summers off made being a teacher seem a lot more beneficial to. Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. There is unquestionably another side to the world of a teacher that can only be seen inside a classroom. Watching the students made me realize that being a teacher will no doubt carry some difficulties but, it will all pay off in the end. Observing has made me realize that there is more to teaching, the classroom, and what goes on inside.…

When it comes to writing papers, I usually have a difficult time getting started. I sometimes have trouble with certain topics, getting the general concept, and then turning it into a writing that will get my point across. I feel as if I’m not very creative with my words as I should be without sounding so scattered brained and lost. I was a little nervous when entering English 1102, after having such a difficult time in English 1101 online. At first I did feel at ease but once we got to doing research on a particular food and the articles, I did have some challenging moments. In in the end I did pull my works together and I plan on sharing some of my reflections while taking a look back on a couple of my papers.…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

Things that teachers could do to help me have an easier time writing an essay is to not give work time in class. Honestly I will probably spend it playing computer games. While I could be doing a worksheet that shows me how to write better. Another thing that could help me is to make mini due dates. I like knowing that I am going at the right pace while I am writing. I also have a few recommendations for students who take this class next semester. The first and biggest one is to get done early. If you get done early you can spend class doing other homework or play games, without being stressed out about finishing your essay. Another tip is to use paper rater. You do a lot of writing in this class, and paper rater can make it so your essays don’t have errors without having to spend a lot of time looking for them. The last is write in the format that you are most comfortable in. I have always been taught to write in the 5 paragraph format, so I always use it if I can. I make me write my stories much faster. Knowing what other people do to pass a class can help you pass the class even if they are smarter than…

Nursing has been given the idea that a lot of writing is not needed after nursing school, but that assumption is incorrect. Nurses have a lot of daily task, many of them need good writing and comprehension skills which can be developed in English 101 and English 102 classes. Core classes in general will help and the foundations that are taught in those two classes can help make one successful in any career, nursing included. Nursing needs writing in these tasks: creating a daily plan for the patient, writing prescriptions (depending on which position of a nurse), creating a plan for the patient after being discharged, and for communication through emails. With the help received in English 101 and the help I will be receiving in English 102…

But after reading “They Say/ I Say”, and going through a few classes discussing the text. I now have a deeper understanding of a writer’s audience, and how the importance of narrowing down who you are talking too in your essays is when trying to convince someone of something. Also, something I didn’t realize was that there are various ways and templates on introducing ideas, refuting ideas, summarizing ideas, etc. to help make your argument stronger. These templates in the They Say/I Say reading really gave me a bulk of new ways to introduce my ideas for my essay assignments in class, and really made me a better writer. This led to me seriously changing my writing process. Previously, I would simply sit on an essay assignment for a while and like most people, when the deadline or due date finally sneaks up on me I’d do it. This cycle of procrastinating really hurt my ability to string together strong coherent essays, even in my first two essays for the class. But because of my Professors emphasis on peer review and really the writing process in general, I can proudly say have changed my ways. I’ve now developed a pretty solid routine that includes first prewriting/invention, then drafting, then I revise/editing, then finally I reflect my writing. This has helped me completely avoid writer’s block, an issue I faced before taking this…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

To start off with, the overall environment of being part of an AP/IB English class all throughout high school has made a positive affect on me. This has not only affected my familiarization with college level essays but I know what is expected from a higher level english course. As I have mentioned in my previous essay, I have written papers that were up to seventeen pages long. When I was in high school I often thought, why do I have to write so much, it would annoy me that every month was a new essay, now the idea of writing a lengthy paper has…

One of my more enriching experiences occurred during my freshman year of high school. For years, I strove for straight A's, and for years I received them. Over time I constructed a mentality, and underlying self-confidence that I would receive an A no matter what. Due to my over-confidence, I was under the impression that I would not have to put forth much effort; however, near the conclusion of the second semester, I had a B in Pre-AP English 9. Despite my last push to earn a 90% in the class with the concluding assignments of the semester, my grade was finalized lower than I had wished for. It felt as if a five pound ball of lead materialized in the pit of my stomach. This experience, at first, devastated me to the fullest extent, and I…
