College Education Should Be Free Research Paper
Nearly every High school student is met with the question “are you going to college after high school?”. Some students want to go but can’t afford it, and some just simply don’t want to go. But is that necessarily a bad problem? Taxes should not be raised to make college education free because student persistence and success will decrease, the American public cannot afford it and degrees will be devalued.
Whenever a student is faced with a difficult or challenging course, you either make the decision to fail the class and hurt you’re your grade point average (GPA), or you withdraw from the course. Dropping a class could lower your eligibility for financial aid as well as loans. Currently, the majority of colleges charge tuition for courses a student repeats, and tuition will not be reimbursed for a dropped or failed class. So, let’s say that raises to three out of three adults, what separates them? As of now, a degree usually separates person from person especially when applying for the same job. Right now, the job market is more competitive than it has ever been, now imagine adding a couple thousand more people with the same degree as you, applying for the same job as you. Basically, the more people who have the same degree, means the less value yours holds. Not only that, but social classes are a huge part of what makes this world functional. If you give every single person the same opportunities, then the structure to society is disturbed, and society cannot function without structure. We have a lot more to consider before making college education free. Student discipline, raised taxes and devalued degrees are only a few reasons as to why college education shouldn’t be free. If you want your education to be free, consider joining the military and earning it
