The book was better because it helped imagine the city and what the characters looked like and The City of Ember. While reading the book dose not say the city was underground so nobody knew that the city was underground, but in the movie it tells everyone clearly that Ember was underground. When Lina and Doon first got their job they went places around Ember that the book did not know so they made everybody imagine what those parts of the city looked like.
