Christopher Reeve's Portrayal Of A Modern Hero
Christopher Reeve, portrayal of Superman in the Superman film series, once stated, “A hero is someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not, always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway. A true hero is anyone, regardless of who they are, not burdened or influenced by obstacles standing in their way. Flooding the pages, of today’s textbooks, the accomplishments of both past and present heroes are etched for future generations to look upon until the end of time. Their courage and willingness to take risks, their empathy for others, and dedication earned them a special place in our hearts.

After fully recovering, Yousafzai told the told, “I raise up my voice - not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.” The Pakistani was willing to risk her life in order to encourage others to join the fight for the public education of girls. Instead of letting both the shot and the threats of the Taliban stop her, she held her head up high and continues to advocate for girls education today. Additionally, Frederick Douglass was terrified of speaking out in public, as it would draw attention to himself -- which he believed that would cause him to be caught and sent back into slavery. For examples, his own memoir, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, reads, “I was afraid to speak to anyone for fear of speaking to the wrong one, and thereby falling into the hands of money-loving kidnappers.” However, after seeing how the others slaves were treated back in the South, Frederick felt that it was his duty to release all the slaves. Thus, Douglass began to speak out against slavery on the behalf of all slaves
