How Was Patrick Henry Effective
Bravery is an admirable principle that is illuminated in Colonial/Early America from the 1600s to the 1700s. Patrick Henry displayed great bravery declaring his speeches. He rebuked the king of England in public and commended the colonists to fight for independence. Patrick Henry discovered the base of his public career in 1763, a deep compassion for injustice to the plain people and a powerful voice that could overwhelm a jury. Henry's listeners carried him winningly from the courtroom, after he had rejected spiritual arrogance and the British power supporting it. Two years later, as a member of the House of Burgesses, Henry made his inspiring speech criticizing the Stamp Act. Henry also guaranteed resolves against the Stamp Act, opposing the power of Parliament to tax Virginians, which marked him as an early radical leader. Henry used his powerful voice and popular support to lead the anti-British movement in the Virginia Legislature for 10 years. During the crisis, triggered by the Boston Tea Party and the Coercive Acts, Henry was at the peak of his career. He drove the House of Burgesses to repeated defiances of the stubborn royal governor, Lord Dunmore.     The Stamp Act was a tax imposed on the colonies by the British. Every public and legal document had to have the British seal on it. The fee paid for the seal was used to fund the military defenses of the colonies.     In addition, Henry also uses the appeal of fear to convince them to fight for freedom. To understand this example Henry mentions being British rule. Leading to role, Henry tries to persuade people emotionally, trying to make people feel that if they don't fight, then they are going to be slaves using the emotional appeal of fear. As Henry puts it, “I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery.” The “it” refers to the colonist’s need to fight for freedom.
