EAP Essay
Due to Sue Jozui's statement about celebrities advertising products and how we should boycott this kind of advertising and legislate rules and guidelines for advertisers is ridiculous!! Celebrities sell the products to make the product appealing to their audience and it is the consumer's responsibility to choose weather they buy it or not.
If you look at commercials now a days it is filled with hot celebrity actresses and sports icons. People buy their product if it appeals to them and that appeal is created based on the advertisement in which they saw. For instance, if you see a commercial about make up, one had Taylor Swift and the other had some random person promoting their product, which commercial would attract more people? Of course Taylor Swift because she is pretty and women think,”ohh she is really pretty and maybe if I buy the make up I might just look like her.” Sport icons also play a great part in advertisement for footwear, an example would be Michael Jordan with is AirJorans. Back in the days, guys went crazy for them because they believed if I get theses shoes then I can jump and dunk like Michael Jordan. Thus if it wasn't for celebrities promoting products then the advertisement business would not be such a great money maker for advertisement companies.
One main idea that Sue Jozui does not seem to understand is that it is the consumer's responsibility to choose weather to buy the product or not buy the advertised product. It is basic common sense that if you do not like the product then you DO NOT HAVE TO BUY IT! For instance, when Kim Karsashian advertised a burger for Carl's Jr it attracted many people (majority men) to buy the burger, but if you are really into Kim but you do not like hamburgers then you don not have to buy it. There has never been a case when Kim Kardashian went to someone's house and forced them to buy the burger!

    Someone may think is this way marketing is unfair but try imagining yourself as a business owner. A new business owner trying to get their young business off the ground and a celebrity happens to actually enjoy your product and wants to be in a commercial. If this type of marketing is banned, this could hurt the business trying to get a boost for their products. Not all commercials have famous personalities emptily selling a product and not all advertiser are trying deceive the consumers. Someone should be allowed the right to use advertising as they like because they should freedom to sell their product where it is deceptive or not. ‘Advertisements using celebrities are manipulative’ but isn't all advertising kind of manipulative? For example if a medicine commercial claiming to fix heartburn will list off the benefits to the viewer nice and clearly. However when the side effects are listed there can be many problematic symptoms or life threatening ones that are rattled off so quickly, you don’t get to hear them all. This tactic misleads the viewer to hear all the good things about the medicine but likes to quickly skim over the flaws. Why is this any different from using actors and actresses in a commercial?
