When comparing the slum to the world around it, you can notice the differences. First the housing. In the slums, the houses are smaller and squarer than normal. It doesn’t have multiple floors and more than one family are out into it. They have very little personal items and trinkets in their home and they overall don’t have much. Changing the view, a normal house of a middle class person would be a larger living space with multiple floors. Only a single family would live under the roof and each person would have their own room. Each person has many personal items and the house is filled with many items that make it homey. Just comparing the one, we can already see the major difference in the material culture. Though people say material isn’t everything, you can distinguish between people by how much they have. The people don’t have that much because of the lack of money and jobs. Their clothes are homemade in their town and they have very little of their own because their money doesn’t go to material objects but towards bills, food, and their children if they have any. This is how they are able to distinguish between class and…

Occurring only ten years after the final conquest in Mexico, the Lady of Guadalupe event served as a crucial point in shaping the newly contacted Spanish and native cultures. Spanish friars initially tried to force their religion upon the natives. They found the native practices of human sacrifice appalling and felt it was their duty to spread the Christian gospel to all those they considered unenlightened. Since the event in 1531 the story of Guadalupe has helped to harmonize the conflict between the two. To this day the significance of Guadalupe is still deeply embedded within Latin American spirituality. Virgilio Elizondo states in Guadalupe: Mother of the New Creation that the idea of Guadalupe comprises an “American Gospel” (p. 134). The apparition Juan Diego experienced with Guadalupe, the Mother of God, encompasses Spanish Catholic elements, Nahua elements, and Mestizo elements that contributed to what Pope John Paul II acclaimed as “an impressive example of a perfectly inculturated evangelization” of the gospel.…

Budapest Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe,[15][1][10][16] its World Heritage Sites include the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, and the Millennium Underground Railway), the first on the European continent.[15][17] Budapest attracts over 20 million visitors a year.[18] The city ranks 52nd on MasterCard's 'World's Top 75 Financial Centers' list[19] and 74th on Mercer Consulting's 'World's Top 100 Most Livable Cities' list.[20] The headquarters of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) will be in Budapest.[21] History {draw:a} Left to right: Mária Magdolna Tower, Matthias Church, Castle Quarter, Széchenyi Chain Bridge, Margaret Island, Danube Promenade, Parliament Building, Hungarian Academy of Sciences The first settlement on the territory of Budapest was Ak-Ink (English: Abundant Water) built by Celts[8] before the birth of Christ. It was later occupied by the Romans. The Roman settlement - Aquincum - became the main city of Lower Pannonia[8] in 106 AD[8]. The Romans constructed roads, amphitheaters, baths and houses with heated floors in this fortified military camp[22]. The Hungarians settled in the territory at the end of the 9th century[23][10] and a century later officially founded the Kingdom of Hungary[10]. The Tatar invasion in the 13th century quickly proved that defence is difficult on a plain[6][10]. King Béla IV of Hungary therefore ordered the construction of reinforced stone walls around the towns[10] and set his own royal palace[11] on the top of the protecting hills of Buda. In 1361[11] it became the capital) of Hungary[6]. {draw:a} {draw:a} Buda Castle during the Middle Ages.
