The mission now stands at it 's fifth site. The first was built in 1777 but flooded because it was too close to the Guadalupe River. It was moved to a second, temporary site until a permanent site could be blessed by Padre Sierra. That temporary mission was destroyed in the earthquake of 1818, and it was moved to yet another temporary site. Construction began on the fourth church in 1822. It…
The presidios were a military fortress built in the middle of sixteenth century. This military fortresses were built to protect the Spain’s territory against their powerful enemies, especially in the frontier areas and ports. Inside the presidios, there were soldiers living with their families. They even cultivated the land for living. They were not able to self-support their own soldiers or families. Therefore, they received subsidies from Mexico to help their lives in the presidios. The presidios were built with the wooden or stockade fence at first, and later stone walls were built around the wooden fort to make it stronger against their European enemies. The presidios were built in the areas of what came to be California, Arizona, New Mexico,…
Sapelo Island is speculated to be the site of San Miguel de Gualdape, the short-lived (1526–1527) first European settlement in the present-day United States and, if true, it would also be the first place in the present-day U.S. that a Catholic mass was celebrated.…
This chapter talks about the history of Guadalupe. Especially about some of the most important events in this little town. For example some conquistadores who ate a poisoned bear and died. During my visit to Plaza Olvera, I discovered much information that before, I never really bothered to pay attention to. La Placita Olvera a colorful Mexican marketplace who attracts millions of visitors. Besides its restaurants and crafts shops, Plaza Olvera also is famous for hosting traditional events like the blessing of the Animals, Cinco de Mayo, Fiestas Patrias, Dia de Los Muertos, and Las Posadas. On my visit to the Placita Olvera I also discovered Avila Adobe, this house was built in 1818 by Francisco Jose Avila. Francisco Avila was a Californio and wealthy cattle rancher. The Avila Adobe interior depicts the California lifestyle of the 1840s. Dark wood tables, four-poster beds, candelabras and elaborate carpets. Moving forward to…
In the first paragraph of Joan Didion's essay "Los Angeles Notebook", Joan Didion seems to be anticipating the Santa Ana winds. She sees the winds as destructive; physically and emotionally. She uses diction, imagery, syntax and detail to show this feeling.…
It was founded around the year 1730 following the Discalced Franciscans Order, it presents the uniqueness of having an own church known as “San Juan” and most famously known as “La Virgen de la Bandera”. It was attached the simple baroque monastery to this late Romanesque temple, being possible to read clearly both areas that were once joint together, after consolidating the ruins of the monastery in 1989.…
Viña San Pedro (VSP) was the third largest winery in Chile, with 1998 sales of 37 billion Chilean pesos (CP). Bonifacio Correa had planted the original vines with French stock in 1865 on the farm in Molina that the family had owned since 1701. For years, VSP wines enjoyed a reputation of being one of the finest in the country, and the vineyard remained in the Correa family until 1941. New owners expanded the vineyard so that by 1994, 1,150 hectares1 were in production, making it the largest single-site vineyard in the country. It was, however, barely profitable and survived primarily by producing inexpensive wines for the domestic market.…
2. Suppose that you and a close friend are employed by the same accounting firm. You are assigned to the firm’s audit staff, while your friend is a consultant who works on M&A engagements. What would you do under the following circumstances (1) your friend discloses to you highly confidential “market-moving” information regarding a soon-to-be announced merger; (2) your friend not only discloses such information to you but also informs you that he or she plans to use it to make a “quick” profit in the stock market? In your responses, comment on your ethical responsibilities.…

Cabo San Viejo (CSV) is a health resort based in Palm Springs. CSV has one big resort and four smaller day-spas. The company was founded in 1992 where the concept was ahead of its time. In the following years the total amount of stays at the big resort (Palm Springs) kept on increasing (Exhibit 7). 96% rate their stay at CSV highly, while 62% rate their stay at CSV beyond what they expected. A lot of customers (67%, Exhibit 6) know CSV via ‘word-of-mouth.’ 32% return within 5-6 years from their first visit, from those returning customers another 62% returns again within the next 5-6 years (Exhibit 6). To evaluate these number, branch figures would be needed so there is no way to say if these figures are good or not.…

The time date and time I went to observe the religious service or observance is November 6th 2016 at 9:00am to 11am. The name of the site is St. Mary Gate of Heaven located on 103-12 101st Ave Ozone Park New York 11416. The outside of the building is very detailed and what looks like to me a cathedral style building very tall and big with five doors for entry. Outside had some sort of information board that told what was happening at certain times and dates. It also said information about the masses and displayed the hours of operation and phone number which I found very helpful. The outside had statues of Jesus. There is a cross on the of the building. Inside is very beautiful the statue of the Jesus was so huge that it needed anchors to hold…
