Assignment 4
(25 points)
In Section 4, you learned about green transportation. Now, you'll apply what you learned.
1. Of the alternative fuels and energy sources for vehicles you learned about in Lesson 1, which one do you think is best for the environment? Talk about the environmental impact of your choice and why your choice is better than the other alternatives. (3-8 sentences. 5.0 points)
I would say electric energy is the best for the environment because it can be made from a renewable resource. Electric energy does not release greenhouse gases into the environment. It is also less expensive to produce. Natural gas and propane may burn clear but it’s a fossil fuel. Electricity can be generated faster, cleaner and more often than any other alternative fuel.
2. Hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) were the first popular type of green vehicle. Why do you think hybrid-electric vehicles became popular faster than other types of hybrid vehicles or electric vehicles? (2-5 sentences. 4.0 points)
I think hybrid vehicles became popular more fast than other cars because it gave people the choice of which fuel they wanted to use. Hybrid vehicles can run on electricity and or gasoline. Hybrid vehicles gives you more mileage and allows you to go further for longer, when you run out of gas you can go on electricity.
3. List four things you can do to conserve fuel in your own daily life. If you can't think of four things you can do by yourself, list things you could encourage others to do. (Complete sentences are not necessary. 2.0 points)
Four things you could do to conserve energy or fuel would be turn the lights off when you leave a room, unplug things from the circuit if they are not being used, when you go out to the store for one thing get all your errands done in one trip instead of multiple trips and car pull to work instead of driving myself.

There are endless ways I could be more sustainable. The obvious would be to install solar panels and water tanks but everybody has already heard of that, so I thought up of some that not many people have thought of. Firstly, I can be more sustainable by taking four minute showers. This will save about 9.5 litres per minute. In addition to this, you also save the energy required to heat that water to shower temperature. Another way I can be sustainable is turning off the lights after leaving a room. Electric lights left on needlessly waste energy and, because I don’t have solar panels, this is burning fossil fuels that pollute the air. Finally I will ride my bike or walk on the bike paths to places close to me such as my dance school. This will ease traffic congestion, keep me healthy and reduce air pollution caused by car…

Each person can help conserve energy by walking, riding a bike or carpooling instead of individually driving to help control the pollution to our environment. We can recycle paper, plastic and glass. By doing this we are helping protect some of the trees that are being cut down to make paper. Plastic can be used to make other things and conserve some of the oil that is used to make them. Glass containers can be reused or recycled to make more glass containers.
