Alina's Age-Appropriate Work Habits Of Pre-School Students
A review of records indicates that Alina attended preschool at Kids Express at the age of three years old and entered kindergarten at St. Ambrose School at five years old. Her kindergarten progress report indicates that she was able to recognize sight words, express her ideas clearly, form letters correctly, recognize and extend patterns, identify shapes, and sort and classify objects. Moreover, she demonstrated many age appropriate work habits. However, she had difficulty with many of her literacy, writing, and mathematical development skills. Alina struggled with comprehending written materials, associating letter names and letter sounds, writing her ideas clearly, counting numbers, and understanding math concepts.

Alina transferred her first grade year to Forts Ferry Elementary School in September 2013. Alina’s first grade teacher described her as a quiet, positive student, who interacted appropriately with her peers. In September 2015, Alina was referred to the Child Study Team (CST) due to academic concerns regarding reading difficulty.Alina’s instructional reading level was ‘L, ’ in comparison to her peers reading at a level ‘N.’ Her third grade teacher reported that she struggled in the area of fluency and she had trouble completing her work in a time efficient manner. In October of 2015, Alina’s third grade teachers and mother requested that she receive Academic Intervention Services (AIS) in reading due to reading fluency and emotional concerns. Alina’s third grade teacher reported that her fluency issues affected her across all curriculum areas. Moreover, her mother stated that Alina mentioned that she felt “stressed ” due to her academic difficulty.     Based on the San Diego Quick Assessment, Jane appears to be below her grade level expectations. Her independent level results were between a pre-primer and a primer. Her instructional level demonstrated a primer/grade 1 due to 100% correct on the pre-primer, 9/10 correct on the primer, and 6/10 correct on the grade 1. She appears to have decoded using the beginning visual cues, rather than using more advanced strategies.
