Mr. Leavitt Case Study Middle School
According to the mother’s report, Sophia and Jeniana attended preschool 3 program prior to entering kindergarten. She stated that both parents were satisfied with the program. Ms. Leavitt reported that the children took the gifted and talented test at age 4. She indicated that Jeniana received a high score and Sophia did not do as well.
Both children attended P.S.36 Margaret Douglas School for kindergarten. She indicated that Sophia remained at P.S. 36, she reported that the child has done well in school. She stated that the child graduated this year from the fifth grade and was accepted to The Mall Hall School, where she will be attending middle school next year. Wilner researched the schools for the children. She stated that he believed that the children would do well at The Mott Hall School or The Columbia Secondary School. She reported that Mr. Wilner did all the work on the school placement, she stated that she did not participate in the selection. She indicated that he has always been very involved in the children education.
Ms. Leavitt indicated that she has researched the school in Merrick, NY. She reported that the children would attend 6th grade at the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School. She stated that they would then attend the Merrick Avenue Middle School. She reported that she does not have any concerns in regards to the children changing schools at this time. She indicated that the girls do not have any friends and the love being in Long Island.
Ms. Leavitt indicated that there has been disagreement with the children participating in extracurricular activities. She wants the children to have activities at every stage she stated if she does not push for the classes the father would never register them. She indicated that her boyfriend can move to Long Island, he currently lives out of state and help out with the children and help care for her father. Ms. Leavitt reported that Sophia has spoken with him via text and telephone.
The mother and the evaluated discussed her concerns regarding Mr. Wilner. She reported that he does not maintain the apartment, he has been unable to keep the home clean. The mother reported that the children are embarrassed to bring friends over to the home. She indicated historically she worked and cleaned the home on weekends but was no longer keep up.
She indicated that Mr. Wilner smokes marijuana throughout the day, she indicated that she is aware that he uses it to self-medicate however, she is concerned about the father mixing medication and his use of alcohol.
