I am David Shane Dobyns, twenty-two years of age; I was born in Puyallup, Washington August 17th 1994 at Good Samaritan hospital. My family consists of my mother, father, and brother. Growing up was as idyllic as one would suspect. In my pre-pubescent years we moved several times bouncing from Oregon to Washington in search of “gods’ plan” for us, finally starting a church of our own in Lubbock, Texas. The church siphoned our time and money to the brink of poverty. Through the eyes of a jaded 5-year-old, everything was but a perfect utopia, neither a problem nor a care in the world. Mother was a stay at home at the wife, dictated by the church, whilst father worked odd jobs donating what blood and platelets he could muster that week to pay…

I live in Port Fairy which is in South West Victoria. As a mother of four I find it extremely relevant and desirable to bring my children up in a fun and carefree environment. What better place to raise children than ‘The most livable city with a population of under 20,000’. (The Standard Newspaper, May 2011). Port Fairy won this prestigious International Livcom Awards that were held in the United Arab Emirates. With members of the local council, Port Fairy was spruced for its port, beaches which there are three main beaches and the iconic bluestone cottages which all the bluestone was locally sourced and hand pitched that have stood the test of time. It was judged for strategic planning, environmental practices, healthy lifestyle and heritage. Sadly, though it was the only Australian Contender for the awards according the extremely proud article by the local newspaper, The Standard.…

This year’s national theme for Catholic Schools Week is “Catholic Schools: A+ for America.” The five years I have been at St. Dominic’s, I have experienced that it is very different then a public school and is much better. At St. Dominic’s, we go to church every Friday. During Church on Fridays, the Mass is run by the school so each class take turns serving and reading and being the gift bearers. We also have a Christmas play which is run by the 8th grade every year. On top of that we have a great religion class every day except on Friday’s and our priest will sometimes come over to school and read us a bible verse or two.…

A critical analysis of the All Saints Primary School and Liverpool College Prep School websites. All Saints homepage immediately stresses the importance of learning together and demonstrates the emphasis that is placed upon religion within in the school. Their mission statement is presented as being “All Saints is a community where God’s light in each individual is nurtured and loved, allowing his spirit to shine in each one of us within our Catholic environment”. This is in contrast with Liverpool College which instead chooses to focus upon academic attainment on its homepage, stating: “High academic achievement is our primary aim and our results in national tests show that our standards are some of the best in the city and far above average in mathematics and English”.…
