All The Light We Cannot See, is considered a WWII fiction written by Anthony Doerr. This piece of work has many things happening at one time, despite each chapter having a different setting and time period. In an article by Dominic Green, he sees the novel as implausible. In Greens article, there are three types of normalization; relativization, universalization, and aestheticization. Relativization is characterized by the desire to “diminish the moralistic aura that comes with exceptionality,” or, in the case of the novel, Doerr presents both sides of violence as equivalent—both the Allies and the Nazis—as “amoral, deterministic forces.” All violence is lumped in together, with no clear aggressor or defender identified. “Doerr’s novel is an…

When viewing characters in stories they can either be viewed as flat or round; in this way flat meaning characters that have no change through the story and are usually uncomplicated in understanding who they are as a reader and round in contrast meaning that they are complex and change throughout the story, whether it may be relatively large or small. The narrator in the story is a part of a time where being “bad” was believed cool by those of the adolescence age group. His character is framed in the beginning when he says: “We were bad. We read Andre Gide and struck elegant poses to show that we didn't give a shit about anything" (P 1). This quote is substantial to the plot because it shows the reader that if they were really the bad characters they were trying to be then they wouldn’t be trying so hard doing all these things that aren’t even bad, which is apparent by the end of the story.…

People travel into the wild prepared to face the worst; they do not want to encounter a deadly situation. The man in Jack London’s “To Build a Fire” went into the cold prepared for nothing, he felt that he was above nature and it could not affect him. Chris McCandless in Jon Krakauer’s “Into The Wild” went into the wild unprepared for the conditions he was about to face. As a person who read the writings of Jack London, his death seems somewhat ironic. “To Build a Fire” by Jack London brings out the irony even more, we see how London wrote and how it relates to how Chris died.…

In contrast, Jose Gonzalez in my opinion probably operated from a place of personal power through arrogance because he knew he has tenure with the college. I understood his need for the additional help the graduate assistants provided him grading of the papers. However, if everyone was using the graduate assistants in the same manner then maybe there would be no need to change. However, because there was no policy it leaves the college vulnerable to legal actions due to possible misunderstandings. In addition, I felt Jose exhibited coercive power when he sent out the memo in an attempt to be undertone in alerting the college of his disapproval of the policy and possible threat to appeal if required. In my opinion, if Jose has tenure then he may have the respect of Helen’s superior’s which would make Jose her unofficial boss. I know it isn’t fair, but life isn’t always fair. You know it is always that one person in the office that you can’t seem to get around so you learn to adapt and still get the job done. We do not know enough from the study to be certain, but if Jose the dean and vice president are more than friendly his sending out the memo was his…

McCandless wanted to live an independent and self-reliant life. As a child, he grew up in a materialistic and dysfunctional family. Although he had a close relationship with his sister, Carine, Chris preferred isolating himself. It was unimaginably difficult for Chris to have a relationship with his father after he had found out about his father’s second family. Chris’s mother, Billie, didn’t have much of a relationship with him either. For Chris, being alone was normal and part of his every day routine. As he got older he wanted more and more to live on his own and be in the wild. Chris and his family would go to the mountains every year to visit which gave Chris this love for nature. He wanted to live in his own Utopia, in the wild.…

This is my project on Austin Carlile. It was to show how he inspires me, etc and this is my visual part of it.This is the speech i had to present to the class:“You have many options in life, Never make giving up one of them.” – Austin Robert Carlile. This man is an inspiration to millions. He has saved and changed thousands of lives, And I am among them. To any of mice and men fan, the ampersand is more than just a symbol.“The same kid, the first day of 10th grade, who stole my backpack, unzipped it, threw all my books in the snow, trashed them all. Then later met me in the P.E Locker room during 4th period, literally beat me up. Smashed my head on the toilet, Broke 2 ribs - Came to Vans Warped Tour in Denver, 2012, And I saw him in the crowd, Looking up at me on stage. And I later found out through family members that he has 2 kids, And didn’t go to college, Lives in the same town, And didn’t really do anything with his life.”The fact that Austin has been through many of the same things that some kids go through everyday, and has over come them, is one of the many reasons tons of people look up to him. When he was 17 his mother died on the corner of 2nd Street & Sebring Court, In LeHigh Acres, FL. His mother was his hero, and it caused him so much pain, but did that stop him? No. He wrote a song “Second & Sebring” Which he made in honor of his mom.”I got a call from my mom and I couldn’t take the call because I was working, She left me a voicemail, then two hours later my grandma called me crying, saying, ’ something happened to your mum.. go to the hospital.’ “I was freaking out. One of the ladies drove me because they didn’t want me driving because I was so scared, and as soon as I got to the hospital there was an ambulance pulling in and they pulled my mom off and that was the last time I saw her.”Some get the lyrics to this song tattooed on them in an ampersand form.As he was 20 he created a band called “Attack Attack” & made an album with them, Then later…
