V for Vendetta
Most movies tell a story that captivate and allow thoughts to stray to a specific time and place.V for Vendetta differs from most films in its ability to not only create an image, but boggle the minds of those watching. This film takes one to an imaginary setting that enthrallingly portrays an idea that has been seen throughout history: revolution. This movie is based off of novels written by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Unlike historical events, this storyline takes place in futuristic Britain. The government is a fascist dictatorship that promises the protection of its citizens, however not their freedom. The population is brainwashed by the idea that they cannot live without their government and the security it provides. However, it is from within the government that most of the problems arise. Prejudice, unfair forms of punishment, and corrupt actions are seen throughout this film. Evey, portrayed by Natalie Portman, is introduced to the film during one of the governments unethical actions. She is walking through the streets of London and confronted by corrupt, rapist police officers. It allows those watching to feel fear and disgust towards a government which would allow such an action, especially towards an innocent, honest young woman. Thankfully, Evey is rescued by a masked vigilante who goes by the name of V. Her relationship with V, played by Hugo Weaving, does not begin on the best terms. He insists that she stay with him for protection and holds her captive in his home. Their characters could not be more opposite, but still manage to create a friendship. This companionship helps shape the movie as they form an ally and plan to over throw the government and bring freedom to the citizens of London. V is the face of the rebellion, the man who hopes everyone will join him on his quest to overthrow the British government.
