Personal Responsibility and Accountability Essay Example
Personal Responsibility and Accountability

Due to my recent troubles at work I have been counseled twice in the past several weeks. This has given me a lot of time to reflect at the way I have really presented myself in the Army thus far. I have not always been the best Soldier that I could have been during most of the time I that I have been in so far. Thinking about this does bother me, it means that I could be trying harder to get ahead and better myself as a Soldier and a person. Lets say for example I have been late to work twice in the past several weeks not only to include missing a pt formation altogether. I did this by not ensuring that i had met alo of my neds to ensure that i woudl wake up in the morning. But by doing this I showed my new supervisor that I was irresponsible and could not take care of the normal things that I needed to do by being at all formations in the proper uniform on time, which is now 30 minutes prior as of last week for me. What I should have done was ensure I had covered all of my bases so that i would have been at the formation, but I did not do this I was not the responsible Soldier that I should have been and just not thought about it as I did. Because it was the right thing to do I once again hold myself back from promotion, win Alpha company. I also should have known that alarm clock was not going to set its seld properly. As much as this was discussed I should have been fully aware of this and I just completely let it slipped my mind which I know is not a valid excuse yet I did do so. To make things worse that day instead of being a good Soldier like I should have and gotten up and just walked to work I decided that the best thing to do would just be a lazy worthless Soldier and go back to sleep thinking that “oh I should be able to find a way to work no problem.” Well I was wrong again and did not do the things that a responsible Soldier or even yet just person in general would have to make it to work, I

It is possible to be born into a successful family, but it is not possible to be born successful. The responsibility of being successful falls greatly upon me as an individual. While others can give an opinion, theory, or share their beliefs it is ultimately up to me to make my own decisions. At most I can adopt someone’s beliefs, I can imitate their actions, or even mimic their behaviors, but no one else is responsible for what happens in my life. It is up to me to put forth the hard work and dedication to reach the level of success that I desire. It is my personal responsibility to choose the path for my life and I choose success.…

I was told that if I had simply taken what was originally written and reworded it I would have been good as gold . I now have come to realize that my failure to follow orders is not only affecting me but it is affecting others. I am taking up a lot of my sergeants time by them having to wright counseling statements for me. Also I have been using the excuse that I am dealing with a lot of personal problems all at once, one after another etcetera and so forth. I could have avoided this entire situation completely by just bringing in my gear like I was instructed to do and then saying that I did not think I should have my weapon because of the difficulty I am having controlling myself and not being sure of the effects of the new medication on top of all of my personal issues. I had already requested and was given the chance to get out of the army with a General under Honorable conditions. I realize that I have been taking time away from arguably the two best lower enlisted workers in the shop. Instead of not caring about getting negative attention I will be trying to think about the soldiers who may very well be staying in for a carrier and their families. I am pretty much getting exactly what I asked for and will be concentrating on what I need to get in order before going back home to Staten Island with my daughter.…

As humans in search of friendship, love, and care we sometimes change ourselves in order to fit in with the people around us. Have you ever caught yourself copying your friends just because you did not want to be made fun of? Humans do not want to feel alone so we follow others even if their actions are wrong. If a person is born and raised in a neighborhood full of criminals that are stealing and killing every day, that person will eventually accept these actions as a way of life. When someone is around only criminal behavior he or she cannot be blamed for not following the accepted moral ways of life. Scientists have performed many experiments and studied real life scenarios concerning the relationship between situation and behavior to find out why good people do bad things. Two strong examples of situations concerning behavior based on context are the Standford Prison Experiment conducted by Phillip Zimbardo and the work of Steven Stefanowicz as a contract interrogator in Abu Ghraib prison.…

The Importance of Accountability is one of the basic principles that the U. S. Army engrains into its soldiers. From the moment they step out of the bus in basic training, a simple rule is told to soldiers so that they can be successful in their military careers. This rule is, “Be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform.” This is all for the purpose of accountability, which is extremely important because no mission can start without it. Any mission with which the unit is tasked - from the very small to the gigantic - starts with accountability. From preventive maintenance checks and services on Monday mornings, to cleaning the battery, to mowing the lawn, they all begin with taking accountability of the soldiers who are participating in the tasks. Accountability is defined as, “Obligation of an individual, firm, or institution to account for its activities, accept responsibility for…

The way that I would determine if the sources are reliable and relevant is by verifying the author. I would select at least one document that has been peer reviewed. According to University of Phoenix University Library Interactive Tutorial (2012), “Peer reviewed documents have been reviewed by at least one expert before publication. It focuses on scholarly material and usually contains extensive discussion of: research methods used by the author; substantial statistical analysis; extensive list of works cited at the end of the article or text”. The fact that an expert has reviewed the data would give me an acceptance of the information that has been published. When documents are peer reviewed it would decrease the chances of the author being able to successfully convey any sort of bias or slant on the information submitted.…

Personal responsibility to me is acknowledging responsibility for actions and decisions made, accepting the consequences that may follow from them, and understanding that others around will be involved. Every day choices or decisions are made from experiences taught or from experiences learned. The only choices people want to be responsible for are the decisions considered honorable or right. People also make bad decisions but do not want to be accountable for them. In life the choices made will guide the way people live whether responsible or irresponsible. Only be responsible for he/she decisions. As noted by Ron Haskins (2009), “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame.”…

Morning formation is the most important formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and put out any information that there needs to be dealt with. Without having accountability there does not know of where everybody is or what's going on. As a result of me showing up late, I received a negative counseling statement with the corrective training being that I have to write a two thousand word essay and could possibly receive Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) action under article 15. By knowing the severity, I have realized that is an important asset always showing up on time at the right place of duty. Not only does accountability matter in formation it is also imperative to have accountability of all your weapons and sensitive items. In case of something happening spontaneously and you don't have a clue where you weapon or sensitive items are, but then you really need them.…
