I Disagree with School Uniforms
Against school uniforms I think school uniforms are a bad decision for S.S Seward. S.S Seward students should not be required to wear an official school uniform because it doesn’t give the students a chance to express themselves and make them feel happy and make them feel like they belong. I’m also disagreeing because it causes financial problems and bullying. Financial difficulties seem to be a problem with the school uniforms. Schools claim that school uniforms are less expensive for parents; however, school uniforms generally mean an additional cost for parents, who now have to purchase different types of clothing for their children to wear in and out of school. Additionally, since uniforms involve specific requirements, parents may not be able to find uniform options in discount or thrift stores as they could if they had more freedom to choose their children’s wardrobes. Most schools with uniform requirements do, however, provide free uniforms to needy families. Bullying and Violence seem to be another problem with the school uniforms. Some school administrators believe that enforcing a uniform policy will eliminate the problems of discrimination and bullying. But kids will find a way to hurt one another, regardless of what they wear. If they wear uniforms, some children will bully each other over hairstyles or jewelry or shoe choices. They will mock each other for their parents’ professions or their socioeconomic status, no matter what they wear to school. A uniform isn’t an absolute solution to problems of school bullying and negative behavior. It also seems that there is not individual expression involved with the school uniforms. Students in school need to learn to express themselves, and their wardrobe choices are one way of doing this. When every child is forced to dress just like all his peers, he loses his freedom to choose how he wants to represent himself through his clothing. Additionally, some uniforms may conflict with a

The greatest disadvantage of schools requiring uniforms is that they are more expensive for families, especially for those who have low incomes. Even though some schools will provide each student with their first uniform, the uniform policies still put stress on the parents’ finances. After the school gives the students their first uniform the parents will be responsible to provide the other sets and they must replace any lost, damaged or stolen items. Jayashree Pakhare, a post graduate and freelance writer, is completely against schools requiring uniforms. She says, “Uniforms may be cheaper than branded or designer clothing, but they are no way cheaper than street clothing.” Pakhare also says, “Along with school uniforms, you need to…

One of the reasons that school uniforms should not be allowed in schools because they are not cost effective. One reason why they are not cost effective is because some families cannot afford multiple uniforms, plus the clothes that students wear outside of school (Pakhare 1). Unlike the students who can afford three, four, or five uniforms, the poorer students’ one uniform will look worn out and used by mid-semester compared to everyone else (Stainburn 1). It will be easier to pick out the kids who cannot afford much. The social boundaries that uniforms were trying to get rid of will still occur with or without them (Cruz 47). The second reason behind why school…

The rate of schools and getting school uniforms is going up and crimes in the buildings are going down. Bullying and crimes aren’t happening within the school. According to Should Students have to Wear School Uniforms ,“When you have students dressed alike, you make them safer. If someone were to come into a building, the intruder could easily be recognized.” This statement shows that crime in school that make students wear uniforms has decreased. I think that school uniforms is an important attire to have in school to help stop crimes, to stop bullying, and time in the morning for kids. People that are against the argument could say that school uniforms don’t allow students to express themselves. These statements are why I believe that schools should have school uniforms.…

School uniforms have many disadvantages for children and families. From the time we are old enough to communicate, everyone tells us to express ourselves and be ourselves. How can we do that if we are required to wear uniforms to school? Chanel Iman once said, “[D]on’t be afraid to express yourself through fashion.” With school uniforms, kids can’t express themselves except through words and actions. Some students are shy and use their fashion sense to make friends. Also, school uniforms can be costly. Many parents send their children to school in hand-me-downs from older siblings. With uniforms, they need to buy several different uniforms for the 5-day week and as their children grow. Also…

Some parents feel that if public schools would enforce schools uniforms it would put a restriction on their child’s uniqueness or creativity. Although that argument is invalid, because wearing the same uniform would result in students expressing themselves through their personalities and attitude rather then pricey brand-named clothing that not every student can afford. Another argument that the individuals opposed to uniforms propose is that uniforms lack comfort. Parents say that the collared shirts can make some students itchy and that the pants sometimes don’t fit correctly so it makes the student uncomfortable, but others believe that most female students are uncomfortable wearing clothing that shows all their skin but do it because they crave attention and social acceptance. Uniforms would not cause students to be any more uncomfortable than they already…

School uniforms do not allow students to express themselves, and schools should not require students to wear them. Self-expression is an important and necessary part of life. Kent J. Fisher wrote, “Our biggest problem with schools uniform policy is the anti-individuality message it sends. If young people are to understand that a cornerstone of our freedom is the primacy of the individual, then…

Even though the argument on whether or not school uniforms takes away the student's right to self-expression will never end. Having school uniforms for the students to wear will eliminate bullies who pick on other students based on their clothing. Uniforms will eliminate the separation of social classes when that is mainly determined by what clothing a person wears. Last but not least, schools that require the students to wear school uniforms makes a formal look on the school. Uniforms may seem boring, but if they are able to help improve learning for students, they are a very reasonable…

In conclusion, I believe that school uniforms really don’t have a use and should not be used in schools. They limit students ability to express themselves through their clothing. They also don’t help with bullying and violence, they even make it worse. Lastly they don’t help with grades and attendance in school. There is no legitimate reason for schools to make their students wear these school uniforms and I believe that we should exclude school uniforms from all…

Name brand clothing is better than school uniforms. “In many cases, clothing is an expression of ethnic identity or religious belief” (Forester, 2). School uniforms are taking the 1st Amendment away from the kids. Forster stated “Congress shall make no law respecting establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise, there or abridging the freedom of speech or the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” (High cost). Kids can wear whatever they want to school. The final thoughts of the school…

However, as stated previously, school is a place to learn not, not to show off your clothing line and your personal swagger. Clothes don’t pick who you are, wearing the uniforms will show that they are all equal and that no one is better than the other one. So, I believe that wearing the uniforms will beneficial to the school, students and parents. Society must decide if individual expression through clothing is more important than education performance being improved because of uniforms being implemented into the school system. Parents and students should remember that uniforms may be required during school hours. After school students can express their individuality in a way, they dress outside of the…

Many educators do not believe in the positive outcomes of uniforms. They believe it is theory that uniforms will improve behavior and social outcomes because “in reality, they don’t”. (KIDS) One of their thought against uniforms is that uniforms teach children that in order to get along everyone must fit to the same standards. Dressing every student the same gives a false idea that everyone is at the same economic level. Instead, students should be able to notice the difference of social classes in their school, and be able to get along with anyone. Another idea is that uniforms interfere with students’ rights for self-expression and limits them to different knowledge. With uniforms, a student is not able to express what their personality and likes. Also, students who choose their own clothing each school day learn to adapt to shifting social standards and learn skills that will serve them well as adults.…
