1. What does the site say about core competencies and corporate vision?
The consistent main core competency of the Disney company is family entertainment, as they put it within their company overview from thewaltdisneycompany.com, they are a “leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise.” No matter what division of five business segments they separate their enterprise into, each component focuses on family entertainment, whether it be in the form of television or toy.
I researched their corporate vision and was directed to the same website, linking to the current Chairman and CEO of Disney, Robert A. Iger who focuses his corporate vision for the successful future of Disney on three principles, “generating the best creative content possible; fostering innovation and utilizing the latest technology.”
2. How are the businesses organized within the larger corporation?
As stated at thewaltdisneycompany.com website, the company is broken into five business segments consisting of the media networks, parks and resorts, the Walt Disney Studios, Disney consumer products and Disney interactive. The media networks section of the company directs all aspects of media within the company and its subsidiaries from broadcasting to digital media and all other related services. Disney Parks and Resorts prides itself in being a world leading provider of family travel and leisure experiences, ensuring that all families are satisfied with the time off used to be with their loved ones at one of the many theme parks, resorts, or cruise lines that Disney has to offer. The Walt Disney Studios segment is counted as the foundation of the Walt Disney Company, starting with simple cartoons and expanding into endearing movies, music performances and even stage plays on Broadway.
