Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In High School
Throughout high school, I have taken advantage of the numerous educational opportunities available at the high school and undergraduate level. As a freshman, I took classes that would prepare me for for the International Baccalaureate Program, the most demanding academic program offered at Millennium High School. During my freshman year in high school, my preparation consisted of taking advanced classes at the high school, and beginning my postsecondary coursework at Estrella Mountain Community College.

My father is a longtime employee of the Maricopa Community College network, so I have been able to take advantage of his employee benefits to begin accumulating college credits throughout high school. Additionally, I have developed a career long interest through the different classes and opportunities I have been involved in. By taking courses with a general focus in economics and business during my summers, I have solidified my career interest: sports management. Moreover, I have attended Junior Achievement’s You’re Hired! Workshop through my introductory business class at Millennium High School, which narrowed my focus to executive sports management. At the workshop, I learned the basics of networking and work

The program incorporates a rigorous, core international curriculum, while including other components including Theory of Knowledge and CAS (creativity, activity and service). To most students, the work may seem excessive for a high school education; However, the opportunity to earn 30 college credits with the program, in addition to the lessons of time management and critical thinking are worth more than the relaxation most associate with a typical high school experience. I thrive on experience, and participating in the maximum amount of classes and extracurriculars are the best way to feed my intellectual

My parents first heard about the new program in the middle of my fifth grade year. Because of the program’s objective, my parents were convinced to enroll me in the program. A week after the interviewing process I was accepted to attend the program. When I first arrived, I notice how the school was smaller than other schools. I also found the environment of the school quite peculiar to what I was immune to. A month later I was one of many students being prepared for college. All three years, as being a Risley student, the program was given a report on its outstanding performances.…

The most significant educational opportunity that I have taken advantage of is my decision to seek out and attend an early college high school. This decision presented barriers of its own––a fifty minute commute, an unconventional schedule, an advanced workload, and a lack of traditional high school sports and events––but my devotion to a better education led me to overcome these barriers. This devotion to a better education within the high school setting is the same reason that I am interested in the UC system. The high school that I decided to attend is what is known as an early college high school. Students are concurrently enrolled in both high school courses and college courses while still in high school. This type of education opportunity…

The public education system in the United States puts a greater emphasis on test scores and grades that it does actual learning. While around 80 percent of high school students graduate, most of them are not being prepared for what comes next. I have come to believe that there is more to education that a decent GPA, so I have tried to enrich myself with as much real-world experience as possible during my time in high school, while still trying to maintain my grades. My time in leadership positions, desire to work with other intellectual individuals, and rigorous academic goals all make me an exceptional candidate for the Honors College at East Carolina University.…

Not only are students enrolled in their school's toughest classes, such as honors and Advanced Placement, but also in the AVID elective. For one period a day, they learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable. Their self-images improve, and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students.…

I have become fond of the liberal arts education The College of Charleston offers, which emphasizes exploration into all areas of academia. An example of this would be the honors history courses that interest me, as I enjoy learning beyond my focus of science, and into other areas that create an appreciation for society’s diversity. One of the many aspects of the Honors College I find engaging are the academic opportunities unique to the Honors College that allow students to develop in their major interests, but also diversify their knowledge in all areas, as the academic requirements extend from calculus to western civilization. The opportunities the Honors College extends to its students are what make it appealing to me, and my experience so far in college has led me to believe that I am the right fit for the Honors College, as it would help me develop as a person, and help me achieve my…

It was at my aunt’s birthday party, when I made the decision to attend college. She asked me that day,” Mija, are you going to college?” At first I hesitated, “Si” . Then she told me, “Are you sure because that is exactly what your older sister said and she ended up pregnant.” After hearing those words, I knew for sure I wanted to be the first in my family to attend college. I wanted to prove her what I said I meant it and was going to make it come true.…

Entering my first year of college in the fall of 2016 was very stressful, but I believed I found a home for myself for the next four years at Rosemont College. While applying to colleges my senior year of high school, I always thought that I would work better in a smaller environment. I believed that if there was a lower facility to student ratio, I would exceed my full potential. When I arrived at college, I started to notice that my views about school had changed. I no longer wanted a small school and I realized that at a small school, there are very little options for classes. Currently, I feel as though I still have a high school schedule and that the opportunity to plan my classes how I would like is nonexistent. I would also like to be closer to home; I believe I need more support from my family. Also, I am looking for a school with an active residential-life presence, so if a problem were to arise, those who work within the position would be quickly alerted.…

I've accomplished quite a bit in the few short years I've been in high school: I’ve participated in the school’s Literary Magazine, helped start a GSA program with a few other friends, taken a number of honors courses, became apart of our Academy of Information Technology, started teaching a dance class for younger children, and quite a bit more. One of the first programs I joined my freshman year was GIR Tech, which is almost like a mentorship program. We provide free, in house, high quality work for the entire district when requested, which may be for a variety of events, including sports events at our stadium, awards ceremonies, political debates, and theatrical productions. We work backstage, at the light and sound boards, as ushers, and…

Would my life have improved if the opportunity to further my education wasn’t there for me? Up until a month before deciding on going to Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI), I believed that my life was going nowhere. In my mind, going to college just wasn’t plausible, due to me not having the financial funds or just outright having no faith in myself and my abilities. With everyone around me getting ahead in their life, I just felt like every day my life was like a broken record, doing the same thing over and over again and never progressing. Above all, I needed to do something meaningful in my life to become financially stable. Additionally to become a great role model and to be able to make a difference in my cultural community.…

When I was younger I loved going to school, I would get up early and eat breakfast and then pick up my friend so we could walk to the bus stop together. Then, I got to fourth grade and I could not understand fractions so I got detention for not doing my homework. I was so mad at myself but I did not ask for help because I never really spoke to my teachers, I did not want to ‘bother’ them. Then, in sixth grade I didn’t get any better. I passed math with a D and because of that I got a C+ in English where I ‘Should have been getting an A’ my grades would go from bad to good and then bad again. I would always say next year it’ll be different but it never was I would try but I would always fall behind or not complete an assignment. It was like that for a lot of highschool too, until a friend told me about IB they said it made them a better student and that it was much better than regular classes.…

Sports have always been a passion of mine, whether it has been playing, watching, or even working in a sports environment. My time of playing sports will come to an end soon, and at that time, I still want to have direct involvement by pursuing a career in operations and event management for an athletic team. I believe that the skills I have developed from my extensive athletic career, including my competitiveness and ability to work efficiently as an individual as well as with a team, can have a lasting impression on a company. When combined with my enhanced knowledge and prowess from previous employment at both a baseball stadium and a soccer store, these skills can allow me to be successful in an athletics event management role.…
