Chandra Levy’s death, was it caused by a secret love or an attack in the park? Chandra Levy was a young woman who had disappeared without a trace. After worry from her family caused an investigation for a missing person, until she was found dead. The missing person case now became a homicide and the search for the killer began. The mystery behind the death of Chandra Levy can be summed up in two theories: an illegal immigrant attack or condit's mistake in murder. The victim, Chandra Levy, a 24-year-old girl who mysteriously disappeared and was later found dead in a nearby park. Levy began as an intern for the mayor and governor of california until she was moved to work at the Federal Bureau of prisons in Washington in 2001 (Brooke 1). Levy a discovery was made in Rock Creek Park. May 22, 2002, a man was jogging through Rock Creek Park when he spotted a piece of clothing and a half-buried human skull (Katz 1). To follow that discovery, “Police decided to interview Ingmar Guandique, illegal immigrant, who lived near Rock Creek Park and had failed to show up for work at the time of Levy’s disappearance” (Katz 1). In fact, Guandique had attacked two other women on the same trails in Rock Creek Park near steep inclines which was the same place Chandra’s body was found (Merrit 2). After more investigation into Guandique, “On March 3rd 2009, Guandique was charged with murder, kidnaping, and attempted sexual abuse. He pleaded not guilty to all counts” (Katz 6). Guandique may have pleaded not guilty, but police interviewed multiple witnesses who said Guandique had admitted to killing Levy as well as a photo of her that was found in his jail cell.
