The witness, Patty Hearst was kidnapped and caught in police obligations within a group of kidnappers. The SLA influenced Hearst to get involved in their illegal actions. This case occurred on February 4th, 1974 in Berkeley, California. Throughout her lifetime, Hearst had a bright future ahead of her at Berkley University. Her early life, the occurrence of the case and aftermath involve many different aspects to the obligations conducted. Patty Hearst was born on February 20, 1954 in San Francisco, California. Her family influenced her well-known name. She is the granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst who founded the Hearst media empire the 19th century and daughter to Randolph Hearst who was the managing editor of the San Francisco Examiner. Thus, Patty’s name was known to the population during this time period. Her childhood can be described as sheltered and abandoned. The SLA was led by a criminal named Donald DeFreeze and their main goal was to create a war against the government by destroying the idea of capitalism. Hearst was captured in her apartment with Steven Wood in Berkley. The SLA wore nightgowns and forced her to get into the trunk of a white car. The SLA wanted to obtain money from Patty’s wealthy father in order to free her. Thus two months of being kidnapped, a public radio announcement on KPFA was realized by Hearst, stating that she is apparat of the SLA. The SLA stated that there was a cash price to release her for food production. Hearst audiotape was presented while high crime rates were occurring throughout California Hearst’s father gave two million dollars to the SLA to release his daughter.
