Since I am the goddess of the ocean, I represent the sea. My siblings and I protect anglers and sailors as they travel. When sailors or anglers are in distress, my siblings and I will save the misfortunate humans. To ensure a safe passage, sailors will pray to me, so that I ensure their ships a safe journey ("NEREIDES"). My role is to bear a son who will be greater than his father. In many myths, I am only known in the Trojan War because I am the mother of the great Greek warrior Achilles. I am a loving and caring mother to Achilles. In order to help my son, I ask many favors from the immortals. Even though I am a minor goddess, I play a major role in the Trojan War.
I have many symbols to represent myself as a sea goddess. Such symbols include seashells, sea horses, seaweed, and anything associated with the ocean. My two most common symbols are seashells and seaweed because both items are most commonly associated with the ocean (“The Role of Women in the Art of Ancient Greece”). Since I am a minor sea goddess, the symbols to represent myself are any items related to the sea. There is not an existing story to why my symbols represent me other than the fact that I am a sea goddess.
