Dionysus Research Paper
The ancient religion of Greece was polytheistic. According to Greek myths, the Gods and Goddesses lived in Northern Greece, on Mount Olympus. Ancient Greek citizens honored their gods and goddesses with temples, festivals, sacrifices, and athletic competitions. According to Greek myth, the most powerful Olympian was Zeus. He was the god of the sky, lightning, thunder, and all other gods. He was married to his sister, Hera, however he had several children with many different goddesses and mortals. Some of his children include Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Persephone, Ares, and Hephaestus. His symbols include a lightning bolt and an eagle.

Poseidon was the god of the ocean, earthquakes, and storms. He was the brother of Zeus and Hades. According …show more content…
He is the son of Zeus and the Theban princess Semele. He is the only god to have a mortal parent. Many myths describe Dionysus as being unusually womanish or feminine. However later in history, he is described as a full bearded, mature looking man. Symbols of Dionysus include the grapevine and the leopard skin.

Ares was the god of war. He was the son of Zeus and Hera. Ares represents the physical and violent concept of war, compared to Athena who represents military strategy. Ares is very well known for being one of Aphrodite’s main lovers while she was married to Hephaestus. Symbols of Ares include a spear and a flaming torch.

Athena was the goddess of wisdom and war. She was born from Zeus when he had an awful headache, and she sprouted from his forehead in full armor. She was Ares’ partner in war. According to myth, she was Zeus’ favorite child. Symbols of Athena include an owl, and a helmet.

Hermes was the messenger of the gods. He was the son of Zeus and Maia. Hermes was known for his winged sandals and winged hat. He had a son named Pan, who turned out to be half man and half goat. His mother, Dryope, was terrified. Symbols for Hermes include wings, and the
