what is discrimination
What is Discrimination?
Discrimination is unfair or unequal treatment of an individual based on characteristics such as age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and plenty other of reasons. Discrimination can occur in schools, health care services, buses/trains, housing, employment, and when voting. This is a big issue and has had a major impact on the past and present. Discrimination has been around for thousands of years and is still going on today. Discrimination has been going on since the Martin Luther King era and that’s what he tried to stop. Movements and protests have been formed to stop discrimination, but unfortunately it is still going on in today’s society. Even though it hasn’t completely stopped, discrimination has been declining in many civil cases but it still exists. Not all forms of discrimination is illegal also. For example, two people are competing to get the last apartment available in a certain section and person 1 has 8 cats and person 2 has 0 pets. The landlord would more than likely accept person 2 because it’s less hassle with the pet issue. In a way that discrimination is illegal is when two people go in for a job interview. Person 1 is an African American female with a college degree and person 2 is a Caucasian female dropout, and the employer picks the Caucasian female just because she’s not black. This form of racial job discrimination is very wrong and needs to stop because the best person should be able to get the job if there resume is good enough.
Discrimination is wrong and should’ve never started in the first place. Everybody bleeds the same blood so nobody shouldn’t be judged just because of their skin color, or the religion that they choose. We are all humans and all should be treated the same and get the same respect that every individual gets no matter what.

    * Discrimination is different from prejudice and stereotyping by that of discrimination actually takes action. Whereas prejudice and stereotyping are more of making assumption of a person or a race, assuming that they are one way due to their ethnicity or what they heard about them before getting to know them. Discrimination as I stated actually takes action there are so many different types of discrimination that actually take place today. Example: Hate crimes- people do these acts based on a person’s race, religion, or sexual preference. With this form familie’s. Another type of discrimination is institutional discrimination this can hinder someone from being hired because of their past or even color. Racial and Ethics Group 13th Edition by Richard T. Schafer defines discrimination as the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons. Discrimination is different from prejudice and stereotyping because discrimination is the act of excluding a group from some right, privilege, or service which is based upon some form of prejudice or stereotyping. Stereotyping is a generalization of a group of people from a certain race which is usually negative and a prejudice is a first impression of a person which is usually based off a stereotype. Discrimination is actual positive or negative actions towards a person or group based solely on their differences. An example would be an employer not hiring Hispanics because he does not like them.…

Discrimination is still among our world today, and stays a constant issue. Many people would argue this accusation, and try to believe that the world today is better than it was years ago, but the fact is that it is still the same. Discrimination is not just among races or ethnic groups, it is among different genders, religions, and marriage partners. Today people argue about discrimination all of the time. Why is it still among us? What can be done? Why don’t we just let it be? But, in fact, none of these questions are ever solved and might never be answered because of the contrasting beliefs of society. Society has put discrimination into stereotyping and many other different forms, but the point is that discrimination is here to stay and…
